Welcome to Microsoft Edge Beta Channel
We're excited to show you what we're working on next. As you're getting started, check out some great ways to get involved.
Welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community
Welcome Insiders, and thanks for joining us on our journey to build Microsoft Edge. With help from great feedback and conversations with our community, we successfully launched the new Microsoft Edge on January 15, 2020. Anyone can now download and install the new Microsoft Edge on all supported versions of Windows, macOS, and Linux.
There are a number of ways you can still get involved and help us. As you use Microsoft Edge and either see anything that needs improvement or have an idea for something new, just click the Send feedback icon and let us know what you think. If you'd like to talk to the team directly, join us on the Microsoft Edge Insider Forum or engage with us on Twitter at @MSEdgeDev. And we'll always stay in touch about new features and news on the blog and whenever the Dev or Beta channels update. All of these resources and more can be found on our Community page.
Thanks for joining the Beta channel
Welcome to Microsoft Edge Beta, the third and final preview channel before features are fully available. This channel will see major updates every 4 weeks after features have been through testing in the Canary and Dev channels. After each major update there will be periodic minor updates for bug fixes and security.
You will notice that the Beta channel has a lower version and will often lack some features which are available in Canary and Dev. This is intentional. The Beta channel will be our most stable Insider channel, representing what we intend to release soon. The Canary and Dev channels will remain the right place to see the latest features, often before they are finished or tested thoroughly.
For more information click below to read our Beta channel announcement post.
We're listening!
Since we first launched the Microsoft Edge Insider channels in April 2019, we've received hundreds of thousands of pieces of feedback. Your reports of specific bugs, feedback on features, and ideas for new functionality all drive action within the team; we are so thankful for our great community of insiders for helping us build Microsoft Edge. If you spot any issues or simply want to share your thoughts, just click on the Send feedback icon in the toolbar or by going to ... > Help and feedback > Send feedback. Include as much information as you can. You can even attach screenshots and "record" issues as they are happening.
For a while, we've been regularly publishing a summary of the top feedback we're hearing from you so that we can acknowledge, provide updates, and host discussions on the issues most important to you. You can always find the latest post at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback. We would love for you to stop by and talk to us about these hot topics as well as anything else that comes to mind. We know we won't be successful without your help!
Thanks for joining the community, and we look forward to hearing from you.
Protect yourself with tracking prevention
Microsoft Edge offers a powerful way to keep you in control of your privacy. Tracking prevention protects you from tracking by websites that you aren’t accessing directly. It is enabled by default, and set to the recommended protection level of "Balanced".
You can learn more about tracking prevention and customize settings by opening the Settings and more (...) menu, choosing Settings, and then picking Privacy, search, and services from the left pane. Here you can see and choose one of the three levels of protection, each explained in more detail. The recommended option is Balanced, which blocks known harmful trackers and trackers from sites you haven't visited. You can choose to adjust down to Basic protection, which offers the harmful tracker protection, or up to Strict which blocks most trackers but may make some sites not work properly.
You should also check out Blocked trackers, which is a list of each site blocked and the numbers of times it has been blocked. If you want to see how many trackers are blocked on a site you visit, click the View site information padlock on the left end of the address bar. You will see which trackers have been blocked and have a chance to add the current site to the exceptions list.
Let us know how tracking prevention is working for you by clicking the Send feedback button. To learn more about tracking prevention, click below to read our blog post.
Sign in to sync your favorites, passwords, and more
Sign in to Microsoft Edge to sync your data between devices and make accessing some sites easier. You can sign in with your personal Microsoft account and your work/school account. Once you do, your favorites, form-fill data, passwords, browser settings (like your On startup settings), and more will sync between any Microsoft Edge channel, including channels installed on the same device and on mobile devices.
To get started, just click the profile icon in the toolbar. Once you’re signed in, you’ll also be signed in automatically to other Microsoft websites, like Outlook and OneDrive, or to some sites associated with your work or school. Try out sync and automatic sign in and let us know how they’re working for you by clicking the Send feedback icon in the browser.
Take us for a real test drive
The Microsoft Edge Team is using the Microsoft Edge Insider Channels for everyday browsing, and we’d love for you to join us! Just set us as your default browser for a while, and then come talk to us about your experience. Introducing Edge Workspaces Preview!
Edge Workspaces provides an incredible way for you to separate your browsing tasks into dedicated windows so you can stay focused and organized across your tasks. Each Edge Workspace has its own set of tabs and favorites, all created and curated by you. Edge Workspaces are automatically saved and kept up to date.
No more cluttered tabs or losing track of your work. Plus, you can sync your Edge Workspaces across devices and access them from anywhere.
Additionally, we understand that a lot of the work you do often involves others. With Edge Workspaces, you can create a workspace and invite others to view and update the same set of tabs with just a single link. Edge Workspaces makes it easy for you to browse the web together.
Of course, when it comes to shared browsing, your privacy and security are also top of mind. It is important to note that this feature is not browser screensharing, nor does it share personal data among people who are sharing an Edge Workspace. Each user will only see content that they have access to. Moreover, you can only access Edge Workspaces if you are signed into a Microsoft account. This means a user will need to login with their own credentials to access an email account or content, or request access to a resource such as a Microsoft 365 document if they don’t already have it. Edge Workspaces will not share confidential account data like logins, cookies, and passwords with anyone else who has access.
To get started with Edge Workspaces, select the Workspaces icon on the top-left corner of your browser window and click the circle plus icon in the menu to create a new workspace.
To access the Edge Workspaces Preview, you will need to be signed into your Microsoft account using Microsoft Edge version 111.0.1661.51 (or higher). You will receive 5 invites to send to friends and family to join the preview, which is subject to availability. We are starting with a limited group of users to gather feedback and will expand to more users during the next several months. Edge Workspaces is available on PC, Mac, and Linux.
We are excited for you to experience how Edge Workspaces can help you organize your browsing activities and share with others for seamless collaborative browsing. Tell us what you think by going to the Workspaces menu and clicking the thumbs up 👍 or down👎buttons!
Introducing Browser essentials
Browser essentials is a new tool that gives you information and insights to show you are getting the best performance and security experience from Microsoft Edge.
The easy-to-read journal-style dashboard shows you performance and safety feature information to keep you better informed, but only when you want it.
Browser essentials will eventually replace our current Performance Hub. We have refined that dashboard and have provided you with safety information at the same time.
To start, you can access more details about existing performance and safety features like Efficiency Mode, Sleeping Tabs, and SmartScreen scanning. We will expand in upcoming months based on your feedback.
When you need it, Browser essentials will alert you when something requires your attention, inform you of the situation, and give you recommended solutions to get back to a great browsing experience.
Browser essentials is available to all Windows Canary users and 50% of Dev channel users. We’re excited to have you try it out.
Open up Browser essentials from the Toolbar and tell us what you think by clicking the thumbs up 👍 or down👎buttons!
Additional setting for Strict Media Autoplay Blocking
We have heard your requests for strict blocking of media autoplay, and we are excited to share it is now available! Edge Canary now has a new autoplay setting, Block, this allows you to stop all media on a site from automatically playing. This setting is more restrictive that the existing ‘Limit’ option and it blocks automatic playback on all sites regardless of previous usage.
Enabling this feature is simple. Navigate to edge://settings/content/mediaAutoplay in the address bar and select Block from the drop-down menu to try it. Alternatively, you can navigate through the Edge settings page to “Cookies and Site Permissions” you will find the “Media Autoplay” setting in the permissions area on the right-side pane.
We have started making the feature available to some of our Canary users and will continue to make it available to more customers over the coming weeks.
As always, we would love to hear your feedback and details about any issues you find! Simply head to the (…) menu > Help and Feedback > Send feedback to let us know what you think!
Introducing Video Super Resolution!
Did you know? One out of three videos are played at 480p or a lower resolution in Microsoft Edge today? There are a variety of reasons for this: the media provider served a low-resolution video, the user has low network bandwidth, or the original video was simply already low-resolution. Watching videos in low quality is not enjoyable: details are blurred, text is not legible, and fast-moving objects are difficult to follow. We’ve grown accustomed to this experience over the years and couldn’t improve the experience much, until now!
We are excited to introduce an experimental video enhancement experience, powered by AI technology from Microsoft research called Video Super Resolution. It is a technology that uses machine learning to enhance the quality of any video watched in a browser. It accomplishes this by removing blocky compression artifacts and upscaling video resolution so you can enjoy crisp and clear videos on YouTube, and other streaming platforms that play video content without sacrificing bandwidth no matter the original video resolution.
Due to the computation power required to cleanup and upscale videos, video super resolution (VSR) is currently offered only when the following conditions are met:
- The device has one of the following GPUs: Nvidia RTX 20/30/40 series OR AMD RX5700-RX7800 series GPUs.
- The video is played at less than 720p resolution.
- The device is connected to AC power.
- Both the height and width of the video are greater than 192 pixels.
- The video is not protected with Digital Rights Management technologies like PlayReady or Widevine. Frames from these protected videos are not accessible to the browser for processing.
We are working on automatic Hybrid GPU support for laptops with multiple GPUs. Meanwhile, you can try VSR by changing Windows settings to force Edge to run on your discrete GPU.
The feature is currently available in the Canary channel for 50% of users and will be enabled when the above conditions are met. When the feature is enabled, you will see an HD icon in the address bar. Clicking the icon will allow you to enable or disable the feature.
If you would like the try the feature out manually, you can enable the feature in edge://flags/#edge-video-super-resolution
We are excited for you to try this out! We’d love to get your feedback on this feature, so don’t forget to click the thumbs up 👍 or down👎buttons (edge://settings/system) to let us know what you think!
Edge’s PDF reader’s new engine powered by Adobe Acrobat
As part of the Adobe and Microsoft collaboration to re-envision the future workplace and digital experiences, we are natively embedding the Adobe Acrobat PDF engine into the Microsoft Edge built-in PDF reader, with a release scheduled in March 2023.
This will give users a unique PDF experience that includes higher fidelity for more accurate colors and graphics, improved performance, strong security for PDF handling, and greater accessibility—including better text selection and read-aloud narration. These capabilities are part of the free Microsoft Edge PDF experience.
Consumer users of Microsoft Edge will see this change immediately. This will roll out to organizations with managed devices over time, to allow time to test the updated experience and transition users. See below for more details. Ultimately, the legacy engine in the Microsoft Edge PDF solution is scheduled to be removed on March 31st, 2024.
Microsoft Edge users and organizations with existing Adobe Acrobat subscriptions can use the Acrobat extension inside Microsoft Edge at no extra cost. There is no requirement to purchase an Adobe Acrobat subscription to use the Microsoft Edge built-in PDF free capabilities.

Manifest V3 and Microsoft Edge Add-ons - Microsoft Edge Blog (windows.com)
The Top Feedback Summary has been updated for the end of the year! Though we are only addressing one item since our last update, we wanted to ensure we didn't leave you all hanging at the end of the year with the last update being from mid-August. Thanks again to everyone for their continued patience with the lack of updates to this summary; we do understand how frustrating it is when things are no longer communicated. Click Top Feedback below to read more!
That's all from us for the rest of the year! See something the team needs to investigate? Be sure to submit that directly through the browser by heading to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback and include diagnostics so the team can jump right into investigating what you're seeing. Have something you want to suggest to us? We have the Edge Feedback Portal ready for your thoughts to be posted on! This will give the community a chance to comment and vote for your suggestion. Until our next update, happy holidays wherever you are and a happy new year, Insiders!
New to the Edge Insider community and unsure where to go from here? You can see updates directly from the team and chat about feedback on the Microsoft Edge Insider Tech Community forums, see news updates from us on Twitter, or join the communities in r/MicrosoftEdge and r/edge. We look forward to seeing you there!
New additions to the sidebar in Edge!
Since the recent introduction of the sidebar in Microsoft Edge, the team has been working on improving not only the experience but options available within this browser addition! The sidebar already has the ability to be resized to a width that fits your needs, lets you create custom names for websites you added, and apps that play sounds will show you when they are playing - you can even hover over the speaker icon to access that app's media controls.
This month, we're excited to share that you can now add third-party websites, see notifications for both first- and third-party sites, use Outlook for easy multitasking, use YouTube for a different kind of multitasking, and we sprinkled in some messenger and music apps. We're working on adding in other apps and productivity tools so you can personalize the sidebar to work best for you. We've heard the ability to re-arrange the icons is crucial to your experience, and we're working on bringing that functionality in the near future!
Want to know more? Here's a couple tips you may not know of: click the ... menu in each app to see unique-to-sidebar options like swapping between desktop and mobile views, and you can pin/unpin an app to see subtle changes like border shadowing and separation differences. We're always looking to your feedback to help us improve! Be sure to let the team know of any thoughts you may have by clicking the ... menu in any app open in the sidebar and selecting Send feedback. Happy multitasking, Insiders!
Follow on Pinterest
After being able to follow your favorite creators on Youtube, Tiktok, and Bilibili, we are happy to announce that you can follow trendy Pinterest creators starting in Edge 107! Same with the current follow experience, just look for the Follow button in the address bar when you browse on Pinterest, and with a simple click you will stay connected with your favorite Pinterest creators in Edge. Whenever your followed creators have updates, you will receive a pop-up notification to let you know; you can still open Collections from the toolbar or Settings to find the most recent updates from your followed creators there. We are working hard to let you follow all of the creators you love and, in the near future, we will also expand this feature to Facebook and more. Stay tuned and start your first ‘Follow’ today! We'd love to hear what you think! Head to ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to send the team a detailed description of your thoughts and suggestions.
Improvements to PWAs and default link handlers
"App hopping" is a frustration that anyone can experience on any device. When you have an app installed to handle specific files, you expect those files to open in the specified app. We're taking this same thought to the PWA experience to help ensure links open in the app you want them to.
Now you can assign link handling to PWAs in Edge! When you install a new PWA from a website, Edge will assign that PWA as the default link handler for that website's URLs. For example, reddit.com URLs clicked from an external app will open the Reddit PWA. You can also set this up manually or even remove the handling preference directly on the edge://apps page for each installed app.
The team would love to hear if you spot any issues with the link handlers in PWAs! Please file feedback by clicking the ... menu in the PWA > Send feedback to Microsoft and give as many details as you can for what you are seeing. We hope you enjoy a smoother app browsing experience with this!
Introducing Command Palette for Edge DevTools
The Edge DevTools team is pleased to announce a new experimental feature: Command Palette, now ready for testing in Microsoft Edge Insider Channels.
Command Palette makes it possible to quickly access browser management and developer tools features with just one keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+Space. Press the shortcut and get access to tab, bookmark, and collection management features, or developer tools features like simulating a mobile device, clearing the cache memory, and more. If you are familiar with other command palettes like the one in VS Code, or PowerToys, you will feel right at home.
To find out more information about how to get this enabled and get feedback to the team, click Read more below.
Available in Canary: Edge Secure Network
A common request we have heard from users is that they would like to see more privacy-focused features in the browser. Today, we're excited to share that we have kicked off experiments for Microsoft Edge Secure Network in the Canary channel! You can download it here if you are not using it already.
We are opening this preview to a small audience to get initial feedback and recommendations so we can offer the best in-browser Secure Network experience. With Edge Secure Network, you can connect to public Wi-Fi at coffee shops, airports, restaurants, hotels, & other venues, complete transactions, and shop online, all with the improved privacy and security that gives you the peace of mind you deserve. We’ve partnered with Cloudflare to help ensure that if VPNs are allowed in your region, wherever you connect to the Secure Network service, you will connect to a local data center and the IP address your browsing data flows through will be geographically similar to your actual region. However, websites will not see your individual network address, keeping your browsing disassociated from you while still allowing the internet to ‘just work’ as you expect.
Our teammates Brandon and Kelda go over this feature in more detail on our Insider forums. Click Learn more below to read on about this feature update!
A new look for DevTools
Focus Mode is a new user interface for Edge DevTools designed to modernize and streamline the DevTools UI without compromising its feature set. This DevTools interface was previously released as an experimental feature but is now being enabled by default in our Insider channels.
When debugging web apps and PWAs, developers rely on DevTools to gain insights on layouts, performance, accessibility, memory usage, and more. But with more than 30 unique tools, the interface can be busy and overwhelming. Focus Mode addresses this with a modernized look-and-feel that consolidates menus and buttons while allowing you to customize DevTools to suit your workflow. Tools appear in the Activity Bar, a compact toolbar that allows you to pin, rearrange, and switch between tools rapidly. This toolbar can appear in a horizontal or vertical orientation, especially useful when DevTools is docked to the side of the browser and screen space is limited.
The Edge DevTools docs provide more information about the features of Focus Mode. Let us know what you think! You can send feedback by selecting the ? icon in Focus Mode and selecting Feedback. Or, you can join the conversation on the Edge DevTools GitHub repo. We look forward to hearing how you feel about the new look!
An updated experience for the Apps hub!
Progressive web apps (or PWAs) have gained popularity in recent years, appealing to every person who likes the feel of their websites to behave more like an app. When the browser detects that a site is installable, the App available button appears in the address bar, but you can install sites as apps even if they aren't PWAs! We are excited to share with you a couple new updates to Apps as a feature in the browser: an updated Apps hub and the introduction of app sync.
To discover the new Apps hub, click the ... menu > Apps, and you will see a hub flyout similar to History or Collections (or turn on the Apps button in the toolbar by right-clicking the menu option and selecting Show in toolbar). Like any other hub, you can use the pin button to pin the hub as a sidebar that’s always available. From the hub, you can install any site as an app and access your previously installed apps. Click Open to launch an installed app, or right-click any app’s name to pin it to the Start menu, taskbar, or access the app’s management page.
If you use Edge on multiple devices and you’re signed-in with sync enabled, then all of the websites and apps that have been installed will now also be synchronized across all of your desktop devices! If there’s a website you use on a regular basis and installed it as an app on one device, chances are it will be just as useful to you on other devices, too. Edge won't automatically install those apps for you, since you might not necessarily want all of them on all devices, but they get displayed on the Apps hub and you can install them with one click.
We'd love to hear of any issues you spot with this, or suggestions you may have for improving this experience. Head to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to open the in-app feedback tool and let us know your thoughts. Happy browsing!
Save even more resources with Sleeping Tabs
To improve the memory and CPU usage of the browser, we’ve recently updated our sleeping tabs feature. Just like a good night’s sleep allows you to stay focused and productive the next day, sleeping tabs helps optimize your browser’s performance by freeing up resources for the tabs you’re really using. Our recent update enables pages that are sharing a BrowsingInstance with another page to now go to sleep saving you even more resources.
You can now see how much memory Sleeping Tabs is saving you by visiting Performance under the ... menu in the top right. Head to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to let us know your thoughts or any issues you spot!
File metadata information now available for PDF documents
Our goal with Microsoft Edge PDF viewer is to make our users more productive in their daily PDF interactions. While viewing a PDF, you can now get an information display about the file which contains descriptions like the file size, title, author, keywords, etc. The information is often set by the person who created the document, and some information is generated automatically. You can search for these metadata items to find some specific documents or verify the current file. The keywords section can be particularly useful for narrowing searches.
To try this out, click the settings gear icon on the top right of the PDF viewer and click View document properties. Spot any problems with this feature update? Head to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to let the team know what you are seeing.
Get Xbox Cloud Gaming on Steam Deck with Microsoft Edge!
In case you missed it last week, we shared the exciting news that for those with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate can use Microsoft Edge Beta to use Xbox Cloud Gaming! We are particularly excited about this as we feel this opens up new opportunities in the gaming community, know this is just the beginning.
Missy shared the details on how to get everything set up manually on Reddit, but we also have a support article with images to help those who need visual aids with the steps.
We'd love to hear from you if you give this a shot! Head over to r/MicrosoftEdge or r/edge and either comment on the announcement thread or create a new post detailing your experience. Happy gaming, friends!
A new way to navigate PDFs - thumbnail view!
We have worked on making sure the Microsoft Edge PDF viewer meets the needs of millions of users, and we continue to iterate and improve it based on feedback from users like you. Starting this week, when you hover over a page in the table of contents pane for a PDF, a thumbnail will appear making it easier for you to see exactly what page it is. This makes sure you get to the right page in your PDF as easily and quickly as possible, helping you be more productive!
We've love to know what you think or if you spot any issues! Head to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback and detail your thoughts to the team. Happy browsing, Insiders!
Create a custom primary password for more password privacy!
The Microsoft Edge password autofill capability saves millions of users' time and effort by helping avoid the trouble of re-entering passwords with every prompt. To help address security concerns, we have implemented device password authentication before autofill, called primary password, a feature that can ensure that not everyone can use your saved passwords to log into websites.
Now instead of your device password, you may choose to authenticate yourself with a custom password that you have created. This will mean that even in case of a shared device, only you – the creator of the custom password – will be able to use autofill to log into your accounts. Click Learn more below to read our article on how to get this set up on your device!
View the details of digital signatures in PDFs
Documents in digital form are shared very commonly. But in this digital world it becomes important to establish the authenticity and ownership of the content in the document.
Digital signatures are commonly used in PDF documents to authenticate the content of the file before sharing it. These types of signatures essentially serve as the same functionality that ink signatures do on physical documents that can come in the form of insurance documents, salary slips, etc.. In an enterprise context, this is an important scenario with workflows involving signing the documents and/or receiving signed documents, especially when you work on legal or financial teams.
Now with the Microsoft Edge PDF viewer, whenever you open a PDF document that has a certificate-based signature on it, you will be able to see details around the validity of the signature. The state of validation is dependent on multiple factors, whether the signer could be verified, whether there are any non-permitted changes to the document after signing, among other validations.
The next step for us is to implement the capability to add signatures to a document. We have worked hard on making sure the PDF viewer within Edge is the best tool for your documents. The team would love to hear of any issues you spot with this update! Simply head to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to share your diagnostics and make the team aware of the situation.
Introducing a feature preview, Citations in Collections!
Citing sources for research is a common pain point for students; managing a multitude of research references and sources is no easy task, let alone translating them to proper citation formats like APA, MLA, and Chicago. The new “Citations” feature in Microsoft Edge - currently in Preview - gives students a better way to manage and generate citations as they research online. With Citations turned on in Collections or from the 3-dot (...) menu, Edge will automatically generate citations for students to easily use later so they can stay focused on their research and be prepared once they compile it into a final deliverable.

Quickly discover what matters most with Find on Page's related matches
Have you ever searched for a term on a website only to see zero matches returned because you didn't type the exact word or phrase that was on the page? Maybe you misspelled the term, or maybe the page has a synonym of the term you typed. To make it easier to quickly find the content you're searching for, we're bringing a new related matches toggle to the Find on Page experience in Microsoft Edge!
When you turn on related matches, Find on Page will return not only exact matches, but also terms on the page that are synonymous with what you typed! It will also automatically correct any spelling mistakes in your search terms. We’d love for you to try this out. Next time you go to use the Find on Page feature that opens via Ctrl + F or the option in the ... menu, ensure that "Include related matches" is enabled to see it in action. We want to know what you think, too! Head to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to open the feedback tool and let the team know if you see any issues we need to address. Happy browsing, Insiders!
Type faster and with fewer mistakes thanks to Text Prediction
Last year, we announced the integration of Microsoft Editor into Microsoft Edge to help users write with more confidence. Today, we're excited to announce that we're adding even more Microsoft Editor functionality by rolling out text prediction. Text prediction will help you write faster and with fewer mistakes by taking what you've already typed, predicting what you might want to say next, and displaying its prediction to you as a grayed-out suggestion wherever you're writing online. To accept the displayed prediction, simply press "Tab" or "Right arrow", and it will be automatically inserted into your writing!
Currently, text prediction is only available to Insiders using Windows in the United States with English as their language. We are actively working on expanding language support for both text prediction and Editor in upcoming releases. Have some feedback you want to share? Head to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to let the team know what you think. This is the best way to let us know about issues you spot or to provide suggestions on how we can improve this experience. We look forward to hearing from you!
Get image descriptions from Microsoft
Many images on the web are unlabeled - more than half, actually. Because these images don't have an alternative text to describe the scene, users who rely on Assistive Technologies (e.g.: a screen reader) to browse the web don't get a textual description of them. The 'Get image descriptions from Microsoft' feature aims at making the unlabeled images more accessible by providing an automatically generated and rich image description.
When this feature is turned on via the context menu when you have a screen reader running (or via the edge://settings/accessibility page), Microsoft Edge will detect the unlabeled images and send them to the Azure Computer Vision API. This service will try to generate a human readable string from the image and read the text included in it before returning something we can append to the accessible image description. From the data we've started to gather, this whole process of detecting an unlabeled image, sending it to the Azure service, generating the description and receiving the result in a human readable format takes from 1 to 3 seconds in most cases.
At the moment, the feature is able to generate image descriptions in English, Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese (Portugal), and simplified Chinese. It can read and "extract" the handwritten text in 7 languages and the print text in 120+ languages. To see a full list of supported languages for text recognition, visit https://aka.ms/ocr-languages. We'd love to hear your thoughts! Let us know what you think by heading to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback.

Microsoft Edge now available on all major platforms!
We have been aiming to make a browser for everyone, and we're excited to share that during Ignite we announced that the Stable channel is now available on Linux!
Thanks so much to all of our Insiders who helped us get here. This is a huge milestone we know the Linux community has been waiting for. Have suggestions on improvements we can make? Last week, Microsoft started to roll out Feedback, a new way for users to provide us feedback and see it in a public space to share with other likeminded people. We added most of our Top Feedback Summary items already listed, but visit our summary post to see more details on how you can submit feedback to show up on the new site. We want to hear more from you, and are excited to bring you a new way to talk about your suggestions!
That's it for us this month! This major update for Beta was delayed a week during our new 4-week cadence, however we do not expect this to affect our Stable update to Edge 96. This will be a short visit in Beta, and you should expect to see Edge 97 in this channel in just a few weeks. See anything you think we need to look into? We'd love to hear from you! Submitting feedback directly through the browser via the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback will get your thoughts to the team. Happy browsing!
You can now bulk delete your autofill suggestions
Autofill is a feature designed to make things easier for you as you go to fill out forms that you regularly use. We're excited today to share with you that you can now bulk delete these autofill items!
Just open edge://settings/personalinfo, you will see some new check boxes to the left of your autofill data. Check these to delete old or extra data. The browser intelligently reminds you that if sync is enabled then your data will get deleted across all the devices. There is also a confirmation dialog to make sure there are no accidental deletes.
We'd love to know what you think about this setting update! Head over to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to let us know how you feel about this, or if you spot any issues we should be aware of.
Spellcheck and grammar suggestions now available directly in the browser!
When we launched the chromium version of Microsoft Edge last year, we heard from users that they want to utilize the Microsoft Editor extension. We partnered with our friends on that team to get an updated extension onto our Edge Add-ons site, but today we're excited to announce the implementation of spellcheck and grammar suggestions from Editor directly in the browser!
For this initial release, only those Insiders using Windows in the United States with English as their language will see this feature update in our channels. The next time you go type into a text box you will see not only a red squiggly line for misspellings but a blue squiggly line for grammar suggestions. Click on the item to see what Microsoft Editor suggests, and you can choose to change it or Ignore the suggestion.
We are working on expanding this feature! Want to let us know what languages and regions you think we should support? Head to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to let the team know what language support you need. This is the best way to let us know of any issues you spot or further suggestions on how this experience feels, too. We look forward to hearing from you!

Then, when you are on a web page, simply right-click or press and hold on the page and select the “Send page to other devices” option. This feature is now available for desktop and mobile users! Happy sending!
Simplifying the 'save and fill' experience for autofill
Since we released our autofill feature, we've had feedback to make it more robust. The browser is the hub of form-filling and data-entry activities now, and such workflows often require the repeating of putting in personal information. We've recently implemented some updates to the autofill feature based on your feedback to address some of these pain points!
You will see that the edge://settings/personalinfo page has been updated to now separate personal and custom information. You can also add custom info directly on this page. Additionally, when you are filling out a form that has more than 5 fields, Edge will now only prompt you to save the items you haven't saved in the past. This prompt also has several options you can use to remove, undo, or group up all of this information in the browser.
There're a lot more changes that come with these, so we encourage you to play around with webpages that utilize autofill and let us know what you think! You can do this directly in the browser by heading to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
Introducing the ability to input text anywhere on a PDF
As we continue our journey in making the PDF reader in Microsoft Edge, we understand that not all PDFs are built the same. Some have the ability to edit text in any field while others you need to annotate with a pen or your finger to get it filled out. We're excited to share with Insiders that we've made it possible to add text anywhere with the click of a button!
When you have a PDF open in Edge, you will spot that there's a new button in the toolbar that says Add text. Clicking this will give you the option to click with your cursor in any part of the PDF to input text, as well as change the font color, size, and the spacing of the text! This is currently available in Edge 95 and higher, and Pooja goes over more details on how to use this new feature over on the Edge Insider forums! Click Learn more below to read on about this feature update.
Pick up where you left off in PDFs
Reading long PDF documents can be a very time consuming and tedious task we have all gone through. To make reading those documents easier we have already added ‘Read Aloud’, a feature that lets you rest your eyes and listen to your PDF documents. We are excited to share we have added another feature to make your reading experience even better by letting you pick up where you left off on the PDF documents you read in Microsoft Edge. When you reopen your PDF documents in Microsoft Edge, it will start back up with the same position, zoom state, and layout that you were last reading it in.
All channels that have Edge 95 or higher have this available now, and the team has a post on our Insider forums that details how you can use this feature improvement. Click Read More below to read on!
Update your passwords with ease
Microsoft Edge is already helping you stay safer on the web by giving information on which of your passwords are weak, re-used, or found in an online data breach. But knowing about the health of your passwords alone is not sufficient; unhealthy passwords need to be updated as early as possible to reduce the vulnerability of your accounts and minimize the chances of negative outcomes.
However, this is no easy task as many times the process of updating passwords on websites can be tedious and time-consuming. The team recognizes this and we're determined to help ease some of this pain for our users. With this latest update, the browser will now take you directly to the Change Password page for a given website saving you time and clicks by avoiding the need to navigate to the page manually. What’s more, once you’re on this page the browser will also autofill your existing password and suggest a strong, unique new password! We believe this will make the task of updating passwords significantly easier than before.
Currently, this feature is available on a limited number of sites. We'd love to know of websites that you experience any issues with! Head to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to let us know what you're seeing so we can look further into it. Happy typing, Insiders!
The return of the overlay scrollbar flags!
A top feature request we have been working on lately is the overlay scrollbars flag. You Insiders have asked us to bring this back, and we're excited to share with you the work we've done! This is now currently available in all of our Insider channels.
To give this a shot, head to edge://flags/#edge-overlay-scrollbars-win-style, set it to Enabled and restart your browser as it says. See any issues or have further thoughts on how we can improve the experience? Leave us some feedback by heading to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback. We look forward to hearing from you!

Keep important links at your fingertips with expanded Top Sites on the New Tab Page
Microsoft Edge helps you easily get back to useful websites through quick links on the new tab page. With the latest update, you'll be able to add even more of them to the new tab page with expanded functionality to show two rows of quick links. While on the new tab page, click the gear Settings icon > Custom, and select whether you want 1 or 2 rows for your quick links. We expanded this functionality in response to customer feedback, so thanks to everybody who's taken the time to suggest this to us, and keep the feedback coming by going to ... > Help and feedback > Send feedback!
Earn rewards and support your favorite causes with Microsoft Rewards
Microsoft Rewards is a program designed to earn you points while searching on Bing. We're excited to bring this program right into the browser with a handy click of your profile. If your account is linked to a Microsoft Rewards account, you will see your point balance on the on the profile fly-out when you click your profile picture. Have Give with Bing mode set up? You will find that you can easily navigate to the Give dashboard from the profile fly-out, as well!
In addition to Microsoft Rewards linked to your Edge profile, you'll see a new way to support the causes and nonprofits you care about directly from the browser. When you are logged into Edge with your Microsoft account, Edge will automatically recognize when you are on a website of a supported nonprofit organization and provide you options to support the organization with a donation. The next time you visit a nonprofit website a small 'tip jar' icon will appear on the right-side of your address bar letting you know that you are able to donate. Simply click the 'tip jar' icon to get started. You can donate by redeeming points earned through the Microsoft Rewards program or make a larger cash donation using your payment methods stored with Microsoft.
We encourage you to navigate through these new options if you have them available*, and leave us your thoughts by submitting feedback through the browser via the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback.

*Note: Rewards built into your Edge profile is currently only available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Australia.
A new way to organize your tabs with tab groups
Tabs are an important part of a browser experience. They are how you are able to look at more than one website or document at a time. We understand that things can get out of hand with tabs, and we've worked to make productivity improvements to these like vertical tabs and being able to add all tabs to a Collection to save for later. This week we're excited to announce that a flag you all have been using is now turned on for most users in all of the Insider channels, tab groups!
Tab groups allow you to group up similar websites for more organization; this is very useful if you use the "Continue where you left off" on startup setting. Simply right-click on a tab or multiple tabs you've selected and click Add tab(s) to new group. When you do this, a prompt will appear letting you name this new group and customize the color of the group. To ungroup these tabs, right-click again on any tab and select Remove from group or right-click on the group name to select Ungroup.
We would love to know what you think or how else we can further improve tabs! Send us some feedback directly through the browser by heading to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback. We're always listening for new ideas on how to help you organize your tabs.
Quickly share links with yourself or others with the new share menu
People share links with family, friends, and coworkers every day, but sharing is often more complex and frustrating than it should be due to seemingly unnecessary steps and options. With the new share menu, it’s easy to share links via your favorite services, from email clients to social media services. Best of all, you don’t need to install an app or set up anything for it to work.
The new share menu also helps you remember things for later by quickly emailing yourself a link, saving you time and helping you be more productive. Click Learn More below to read more about the new share feature.
Added privacy and strength for your passwords!
The convenience of storing passwords to the browser is now well-understood and appreciated by many millions of Microsoft Edge users who use it in their lives. Stored passwords make signing in to your favorite websites easy and secure, thanks to autofill. The browser helps you use a strong, unique password for each of your online accounts. With this latest version of the browser, you can identify if any of your saved passwords are weak or reused across multiple accounts, change them, and stay safer online!
However, for some users, storing all their passwords in one location can be a source of worry. We've heard concerns in feedback ranging from passwords getting stolen to other users on the device using stored passwords to log into their accounts. These worries are fair and we've implemented additional security to help address some of these.
With the launch of the Require authentication before autofill capability, users get an additional layer of privacy that prevents their stored passwords from being used by anyone but them.
Here’s how it works: Once you turn this setting on at edge://settings/passwords, you’ll see a dropdown in the username/email field when you visit a website where you’ve saved your credentials. Select the account you want, and the saved password will only be automatically filled after you’ve entered your device’s password/PIN or preferred biometric authentication. This means that any 3rd person trying to use your saved passwords via autofill will no longer be able to do so.
Bear in mind, this update does not fundamentally change the way passwords are saved in the browser; a motivated attacker or malware installed on your device could still be able to gain access to your passwords. That being said, this latest update does change the way stored passwords can be accessed and used, and it will give you extra peace of mind knowing that your sensitive information is more private than before. Please let us know what you think of this feature update by submitting feedback via the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
Introducing efficiency mode
Efficiency mode is designed to help extend battery life. This mode minimizes power usage to extend battery life by reducing resource usage (memory, CPU) through modifying certain tab activity on tabs you’re not interacting with and putting inactive background tabs to sleep after 5 minutes.
When your laptop enters its battery saver mode, efficiency mode becomes active, indicated by a blue “heart pulse” icon in your browser’s toolbar. Select the icon to see the current status of the mode. Here, you can also change when the mode will become active (or in edge://settings/system if the icon is not in your toolbar). We do our best to minimize efficiency mode’s impact to your browsing experience, but in some cases, it may cause videos to be less smooth and animations in webpages to slow down when you're not interacting with the browser.
You should see efficiency mode starting in this Beta channel update to Edge 93. Head to … menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to let us know your thoughts or any issues you spot.
Change your font in Immersive Reader!
It is now possible to change the font in Immersive Reader in Microsoft Edge! This feature improvement is available starting in Edge 93, currently in all of our Insider channels.
The team continues improving Immersive Reader in the browser with new features and capabilities. This latest update comes with an additional customization option to change the default font. Now you can select from three default fonts - Calibri, Sitka, and Comic Sans.
To change font, you can follow these steps –
- Open any webpage that is eligible for Immersive reader. Click the book-like icon in address bar to open the page in reading view.
- Next, click the Text Preferences.
- Find the Font section in a new popup. Select the one you like the most. The browser will apply changes immediately with no need to reload the page.

Payment instruments are now synced across your Microsoft account
We're excited to announce that you now have the option to synchronize your payment information across your signed in devices. With this initial roll out, you can add your payment instrument with full details for the card, including billing address. In the future, we are looking to support not only full details for your payment information but also partial information, like just your card number.
We're making this available to those in the United States initially, and are working on rolling this out to more regions. We'd love for you to give this a try and let us know if you spot any issues! If you do, or just want to let us know what you think, head to the … menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
Lend your voice to the next generation of Microsoft products

Introducing price history through Shopping on Microsoft Edge
Shopping on Microsoft Edge helps bargain hunt for you, making shopping less stressful and helping make informed purchasing decisions in one view. We are excited to continue making your shopping experience seamless with price history. You are now able to see price trends on your daily purchases, whether the price has increased, decreased, or stayed stable for the product of your interest. Even when the current product is suggested as the lowest price available in the market, price history will help you assess whether you’d be able to potentially make more savings by waiting couple more days based on past trends. This feature will be enabled to you by default in the US upon navigating to Amazon.com. (Keep an eye out for when we announce more regions and domains soon!)
Have thoughts on this feature? We want to hear them! Please submit feedback directly through the browser by holding Alt+Shift+I on Windows PCs or by navigating to the … menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback. Personalize Microsoft Edge with built-in theme colors
A few weeks ago, we officially kicked off our theming journey with the release of two dozen themes on the Microsoft Edge Add-on site. Today, we’re excited to announce that we’ve made it even easier to personalize Edge with brand new theme colors in Settings.
To add a splash of color to your tabs, address bar, and other parts of the browser, simply select one of the color swatches on the Appearance settings page (edge://settings/appearance). Edge now comes with 14 theme colors to fit your every mood, from various shades of gray to fun and playful colors. We’ve also made it easier to discover more custom themes on the Microsoft Edge Add-on site, allowing you to personalize Edge with an even wider range of themes. Surf the web with Kids Mode
In talking with our customers, we know kids’ browsing needs look a little different from us as adults, so we wanted to create a space just for them! With kid friendly content and safety guardrails, Kids Mode is a great place for kids to explore the web. This mode includes features like custom browser themes and kid friendly articles. It also has Bing SafeSearch, an allow list that helps keeps kids on friendly content, and a password to exit that makes it easier to ensure kids stay in the appropriate web experience. Kids Mode does not require a child account so it’s easy for families with shared devices to get started.
Kids Mode can be launched through the profile picker inside Microsoft Edge. The allow list is predefined in Edge but parents can edit this list inside Settings > Family from their profile. To close Kids Mode, or grant an exception for browsing, a device password is needed.
This is just the beginning for Kids Mode and we will be adding more functionality over time. Click Learn More below to read about what we're starting with and what's next. We welcome your feedback on how we can make this space even better for kids. Head to the ... menu in the top right > Help and feedback > Send feedback to let us know how we can improve!

On your desktop device, simply head to edge://settings/profiles/sync (or by clicking your profile picture in the top right of the browser > Manage profile settings > Sync) and turn the toggles on for History and Open tabs sync. Easily copy tabular data and tables with smart copy
A common frustration with sharing content on the web is the difficulty in selecting, copying and, consequently, pasting into a targeted application. We are excited to announce a new feature that we believe will help with this pain point: smart copy.
Starting in Edge 90+, you can enable smart copy by holding Ctrl+Shift+X and watch your cursor change to a plus (+) symbol. From there, you can click the left mouse button and drag across a set of data you're wanting to copy. Once you release the mouse button, you'll see a tooltip at the bottom right to Copy the selection. You can then paste the data into Word or Excel and see it retain its formatting!
We encourage you try this feature across multiple different types of content! Paragraphs, tabular data, tables, and anything else you can think of. Spot an issue while using this feature? Hold Alt+Shift+I on Windows PCs or head to the … menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to bring up the feedback tool and detail what you're seeing in the description to make the team aware.
You can now move open tabs to another profile!
Users with multiple profiles complain that they often end up opening sites in the wrong profile and it has been frustrating to move sites to the right profile in the past. We have heard your feedback and are excited to share that you can now move sites to the right profile with a simple right click!
Starting in today's Dev channel update, if you have multiple profiles, you can right click on a tab and move the site to any of your other profiles. This feature is available from work, personal, and non-signed in profiles in Microsoft Edge version 89.0.723.0 and above after heading to edge://flags and enabling the #edge-move-tabs-to-profile-window flag.
We found this pain point thanks to users like yourselves submitting feedback, so we'd love to know what you think! Head to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to let us know your thoughts or any issues you spot.
Save resources with sleeping tabs
To improve memory and CPU utilization of the browser, we've developed a feature called sleeping tabs. This feature allows inactive background tabs to “go to sleep” and releases their system resources after a set amount of time. Your machine can now use these newly released system resources for other things you need for your to-do list, like more tabs, or allowing other apps outside of your browser to perform better. Recent updates to this feature include adding an option to put tabs to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity, updated visuals to show which tabs are sleeping, and group policy management.
You should start seeing sleeping tabs in Beta version 88+. For more information on this feature and how it works, click the Learn More button below.
Two-page PDF view returns to Microsoft Edge
We are excited to share with you all that Microsoft Edge now supports different views for PDF documents in our Dev and Canary channels. You can change the layout of the document from a single page view to two pages displayed side-by-side so you can read your documents like a book. To change how you're viewing your PDF document, click on the Page View button in the PDF toolbar and choose either Single page or Two page from the options.
Spot any issues with this feature update to the PDF reader? The team wants to know! Head to the ... menu in the top right > Help and feedback > Send feedback to bring up the feedback tool and share with us your thoughts. To see where we are now in our updates to PDF documents, don't forget to take a look at our PDF Roadmap post.
How Microsoft Edge manages memory on your device
Don’t you hate it when your browser slows down, and you don’t know why? Suddenly, pages are slow to load, scrolling isn’t smooth, and typing takes forever. What you’re seeing is your browser accommodating your tasks, while taking steps to optimize your memory.
For Microsoft Edge, performance is about delivering better speed and responsiveness while reducing the amount of memory your browser uses. This is one of our top priorities - solving this means increasing your productivity so you have more time for the things you enjoy. Click Learn More below to read how your computer manages memory and what Microsoft Edge is doing to make it better.
Note-taking now supported in PDFs
As part of our ongoing improvements to PDF documents and bringing the features you love into the new Microsoft Edge, the team is excited to share that you can now add notes to PDFs! This is a feature that was a user favorite in Microsoft Edge legacy, and we'd love for you to give it a try.

A Fluent update to our settings and menu icons
Some Insiders may have noticed over the past week changes to our icons across the menu and settings pages; this week, the team is excited to tell you exactly what we've updated! These changes are part of our continued work around Fluent Design updates to the browser in a cross-team design effort to align our icon system to the new Microsoft icons. Click Learn More below to read the Insiders article by Irina about what's updated and what's next in Phase 2 of our iconography refresh.
An update to removing duplicate favorites
We understand that while there is a way to remove duplicate favorites built into the browser, this doesn't stop the duplicates from appearing in the first place. As of version 88.0.694.0, duplicate favorites will automatically be detected and removed on startup after sync completes. In the context of this new feature, a duplicate favorite is a favorite with the same name and URL in the same folder; this means that the same favorite in different folders would not be removed.
Are you on Edge version 88.0.694.0 and seeing duplicate favorites in the same folder? Let us know by filing feedback directly through the browser via the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
Introducing app badging API
Developers, we're excited to share with you that the new Microsoft Edge now supports the ability to show a notification badge on an app icon pinned in the taskbar! In addition to our effort to make notification requests less distracting for users, we're introducing app badging API so users do not miss any notifications from your site. Not only do these show up when users have progressive web apps open, but our changes will show those notifications even when the apps are closed!
The team talks about how you can use web standards like Push API, Notifications API, and web push protocol more on our forums. Click Learn More below to see if you need to make any changes to take advantage of this feature update.
Bargain shoppers - your shopping just got easier!
Have you found yourself digging through site after site looking for a great deal on an item you want? We are excited to share with you a feature that will help you save time and money while shopping online: Shopping in Microsoft Edge.
While shopping, you may see a notification in your address bar that looks like a price tag. When you click on this icon, a fly-out will appear with available coupons and prices from competing retailers. We'd love for you to give it a shot today! Check out the article below to learn more about this awesome new functionality.
Have feedback about this feature? Remember to send us your thoughts and suggestions by heading to the ... menu in the top right > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
Sync your history and open tabs!
In a new forums post, William talks about more changes to how you interact with your history in the browser. Click Learn More below to find out how to use the new history updates!
We are excited to share that we have started to roll out two new data types as part of Edge sync: history and open tabs! With these features, you will be able to see your history on other devices as well as the tabs that you currently have open. Once the feature is available on your device, simply head to edge://settings/profiles/sync (or by clicking your profile picture in the top right of the browser > Manage profile settings > Sync) and turn the toggles on for History and Open tabs sync. The rollout will start in Canary and Dev channels in the US and will slowly expand to other global regions.
We know you all have been patiently waiting for this feature, and we want to know what you think about it! If you're on a Windows PC, hold down Alt+Shift+I or (if you're on macOS) navigating to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
It's important to note that while history sync and open tabs will be supported on PC devices, we continue to work on the ability to sync your search history and bringing history sync to our mobile apps. We will share more updates on this feature as we get them.
An update to how you can discreetly reveal your password
The password reveal button (or the "eye" icon) appears in the password input field on websites in Microsoft Edge. This is a feature for users who want to verify they entered their password correctly in the text field, and is a common feature on most websites that have a password input field.
We know that some users may not want password fields to display this icon, particularly those users who have a password manager extension that inserts its own buttons. Users and system admins alike can now control this icon via settings and policy. For regular users, head to edge://settings/passwords and toggle the option for Display the "Reveal password" button in password fields. For system admins, we have a new policy that lets you configure the default display of the password reveal button called PasswordRevealEnabled. Note that some websites that have the reveal button built-in may override this choice.
Do you have thoughts about this new setting? We want to know! Share your suggestions with us by heading to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
Browse efficiently with vertical tabs!
Many of you have expressed difficulties with managing more than a few open tabs. It’s easy to open dozens of tabs while shopping or researching online, and it’s not uncommon to leave tabs open as a reminder for later - sometimes for days or weeks at a time. As the number of horizontal tabs grows, site titles start to cut off and tab controls are lost as each tab shrinks. This takes you out of your workflow as you begin to spend more time finding, switching, and managing your tabs, and less time on the task at hand.
That's where we feel vertical tabs fits in. Vertical tabs allows you to move your tabs to the side, where vertically aligned icons and longer site titles make it easier to quickly scan, identify, and switch to the right tab. Vertical tabs also makes it easier to organize many tabs with more space to quickly multiselect, close, and reorder. When you want to focus and see more of the web while using vertical tabs, you can always collapse the pane and simply hover over it to expand when you want to interact with your tabs again.
More users will start to see this feature as we continue to roll out the CFR. To learn how you can enable vertical tabs, click the Learn More button below to read more!

Get the Wonder Woman theme
As part of the ongoing partnership between Microsoft and WONDER WOMAN 1984, we created a new browser theme for Microsoft Edge that is now available for download. This theme changes the look and feel of the browser UX as well as the new tab page to create a beautiful and immersive visual experience inspired by the film. And for those who love browser themes in general, Microsoft Edge now supports themes from other Chromium-based stores, like the Chrome Web Store. Head to edge://extensions and turn on the setting for Allow extensions from other stores to install themes from other stores.
New security feature for URLs with Microsoft Defender SmartScreen
Phishing attacks often trick users by putting the name of the popular site that they’re imitating in the subdomain of their URL. What cannot be spoofed, however, is the top level domain of the URL. During user studies, we found that highlighting the problematic part in the address bar helps make it more evident to users that they are on a potentially dangerous website. Using the Microsoft Defender SmartScreen service, we implemented this highlight for all users in versions 87.0.. and up.
We invite you to try this new feature out on one of our demo pages for Microsoft Defender SmartScreen after ensuring the setting for it is turned on in Edge at edge://settings/privacy. While using light mode, head to https://demo.smartscreen.msft.net/ to see what you can expect to see in a variety of sample malicious situations. The sample domain we used, msft.net, is not a typical Microsoft website. You will see in your address bar that the domain highlights this part of the URL to help users think twice about where they're navigating to.
We'd love to hear what you think about this new security feature! Have you spotted an issue or have feedback on how we can improve this feature? Let us know by submitting feedback via the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
Bringing the browser developer tools to VS Code
Last year, we released the experimental Elements for VS Code extension, giving developers the option of embedding the browser developer tools into Visual Studio Code. We're excited to announce the new Microsoft Edge Tools for VS Code extension in Visual Studio Code, which has been significantly improved and is exiting preview for the first time.
With this release, we’ve merged the functionality of two experimental extensions that brought Developer Tools functionality to Visual Studio Code: the Elements and the Network extension. We also made it easier to contribute and build the extension yourself and smoothed out some of the rough edges. To read more about this extension and how it works, click the Learn More button below to head to our blog post about this new extension!
Introducing web capture in Microsoft Edge
One of the most-requested features from Microsoft Edge legacy is making its way into the new Microsoft Edge! We're excited to announce that this week's update brings the ability to take a web capture of the web page you are on.
This is only the beginning! We plan to bring more features to this web capture tool like the ability to add ink or highlights to your capture. Click the Learn More button below to read about what's currently available with this tool, how to use it, and what's next for web capturing in Microsoft Edge! If you have any feedback about this feature, be sure to let us know in the comments of the forum post.

Introducing new web experiences for dual screen & foldable devices
The browser is one of the most-used apps on any device, and today it’s running on a completely new hardware category: dual-screen and foldable devices.
With a variety of new dual-screen and foldable devices coming to market, including this month's launch of the new Surface Duo, there’s never been a better time to start thinking about how your site can embrace these form factors.
Last week, we announced the availability of two new experimental features that will help web developers effectively lay out content in a browser window that spans multiple display regions and create responsive websites that are a natural fit for this new class of device. To read more about these features on our blog, click the Read More button below. If you're looking to learn more about how to use the dual screen emulator, click the Learn More button.

Stay organized with Collections and OneNote
We know that you’ve loved exporting your collections from Microsoft Edge to Word and Excel, especially when doing research, making wish lists, or planning. However, we heard that you wanted more options for sharing and exporting your carefully curated collections while maintaining their in-browser aesthetics.
On that note, we’re thrilled to offer you another exportation option: OneNote! Sending your collections to OneNote will automatically retain their web formatting. This will preserve the original look of your collections’ images, product ratings, and external links, keeping your notes beautifully organized. Get more details about this awesome functionality by clicking “Learn More.”
As an additional treat from our product team, Collections is now available on mobile devices! Click the “Mobile Info” button below to read about it.
Introducing password generation, built into Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge can now help make the task of creating new accounts on the web a little easier and safer. When you're on a website that requires a new password, you can simply select new the password suggested by the browser. Password suggestions are strong, unique, and automatically saved in your profile's saved passwords. Next time you visit the same website, your username and password will be auto-filled for you. If you’re using Microsoft Edge on mobile and syncing your data, then the passwords you generated on your desktop will also be available on your mobile device.
The team is excited for you to test this feature and would appreciate hearing your feedback on it so far. If you have thoughts that you want to share with us, drop us a line via the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
Now enabled: Table of Contents navigation for PDFs
We're excited to announce that another top feedback item from community members like yourselves has been implemented this week: you can now use Table of Contents to easily navigate through long PDF documents. To use this feature, click on the Table of Contents icon on the top left side of the PDF toolbar to open a pane containing a list of the different sections within your document. Click on any item in the list to quickly navigate to that section in the document. For more details about this eagerly-awaited feature, click the Learn More button below.
You should see this option appear in the PDF toolbar as long as the file supports it, however, we want to know if you notice anything amiss! Send us feedback via the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to let us know if you spot any issues or just let us know how you like the feature. This is a part of the items we said we would work on in our PDF roadmap. If you'd like to see more on what we've completed and what's next, click the PDF Roadmap button below.
Announcing the Open/Save as/Save prompt and Delete option for downloads
This week we’re excited to bring back one of our most requested features: additional options for downloading your files! You’ll now be able to choose whether to Open, Save As, Save, or Cancel a file that you want to download. To enable these options, navigate to edge://settings/downloads and enable, "Ask me what to do with each download." Once you download a file after enabling that setting, you will have the option to Open, Save As, Save, or Cancel it. If you choose to open it directly, it will be downloaded to a temporary folder.
Additionally, once you’re finished with your downloaded files, you can now delete them right from the browser. To learn more about these time-saving functionalities, click the button below.
Windows Insiders feature: Alt + Tab between apps and sites
Are you a multitasker? We have exciting news for you! Beginning with Windows Insider build 20161, your open tabs in Microsoft Edge will start appearing in Alt + Tab, not just the active one in each browser window. We’re making this change so you can quickly get back to whatever you were doing - wherever you were doing it.
We’ve added some settings for you under Settings > System > Multitasking in Windows so you can configure the number of tabs that appear in Alt + Tab. You can choose to show all tabs or just your last three or five tabs or you can choose to turn this feature off completely to get back to the classic Alt + Tab experience. This feature requires either Microsoft Edge Canary or Dev channels.
This is just the beginning of productivity enhancements coming to Microsoft Edge - stay tuned!
Removing search bar suggestions
A few months ago, we added a new item around removing previous search suggestions in the search box on the new tab page to our Top Feedback Summary based on user feedback. We aren’t quite ready to announce a solution for the search box on the New Tab Page, however this week, we’re excited to introduce a similar feature into the address bar in Microsoft Edge.
When typing in the address bar, hover over a suggestion from your search history in the drop-down to see the X button appear on the far right of the box. Clicking it will remove the suggestion highlighted and a new search suggestion will appear. Thanks to everyone who suggested this! Give this feature a shot and let us know what you think over on our Insider forums or on Twitter at @MSEdgeDev.
Pinterest in Collections is now here!
Back at Microsoft Build in March, we announced a collaboration with Pinterest in Collections. Today we are excited to announce that this feature is now live in builds 86.0.**. and higher.
Collections are used to capture favorite design ideas, recipes, home improvement links, and even to research the next big purchase across multiple sites. This Pinterest integration will help you find ideas to spark inspiration, save time, and be more productive by suggesting content related to what you have already collected. When you enable the feature, you will see Pinterest suggestions at the bottom of your collection. Clicking on a suggestion will open a board of similar, trending Pins so you can quickly find and add ideas relevant to you. You can also export your collection to Pinterest; any saved webpages or images will then show up in a new board in your Pinterest account.
Have thoughts on this feature? We want to hear them! Please submit feedback directly through the browser by holding Alt+Shift+I on Windows PCs, clicking the message icon in the top right corner, or by navigating to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback. The team is always looking to your suggestions to help improve the browser!
Our first step to improve PDF scrolling
On our Top Feedback Summary, we have quality areas that we consider items we will work on to continuously improve. Smooth scrolling in PDFs is one of these items and we're eager to introduce an improvement we implemented this week. This work is our first step to improve the scrolling and responsiveness of PDFs.
Does this improve your experience with scrolling in PDFs? We want to know, so please submit feedback directly through the browser (Alt+Shift+I or via the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback) to detail your thoughts directly to the team. We're excited to see how you feel about this change! To learn more about this improvement, click the button below.
Introducing custom keyboard shortcuts in DevTools!
Starting in build 86.0.601.0, developers will see a new option in DevTools settings for Shortcuts! On this page, you will be able to match shortcuts in the DevTools to VS Code or keep using the default DevTools shortcuts. For example, if you decide to match shortcuts from VS Code, pressing F5 will pause or resume running JavaScript, like it does in VS Code, instead of refreshing the page.
These changes will also override browser shortcuts while DevTools is in focus. While hovering over an icon in DevTools or looking at the Command Menu, the tooltip will show which shortcut the icon is using.
Have thoughts on this new setting option? Let us know! You can submit feedback directly via the feedback icon in the DevTools. Alternatively, you can also make your voice heard on our Microsoft Edge UserVoice for Enterprise and Developers.
Shop smarter with Collections
One thing about shopping online is that it's hard to price compare across multiple sites. Available in Collections now is a feature that will make this easier, price comparison! When you add a product into your collection, you will see a button to "Compare price to other retailers". Once you click this, we will show a list of other retailers who are selling the same product! This way you can feel confident that you are getting the best deal possible when using Collections for shopping.
Have feedback around this feature, or notice an improvement that can be done? We've got our ears (and eyes) open for your suggestions! Tap the message icon in the top right of your browser to open the feedback tool to let us know your thoughts. Not seeing that button? You can also submit feedback by holding down Shift+Alt+I on Windows PCs or by navigating to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
Multitasking improvements in Windows 10
Web browsing doesn’t happen in isolation, and users frequently multitask between their web browser and other apps using the Taskbar and Alt + Tab. Traditionally, these surfaces have been almost exclusively focused on apps, forcing users to take additional steps to get to the tab they need—until now.
With the latest Insider versions of Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge, your tabs now appear in Alt + Tab, allowing you to quickly switch between both apps and sites. You can also easily access the tabs for your most important sites directly on the Taskbar. The changes are just the first of many designed to make you more productive and save you time while multitasking. Click Learn more to read more about this feature.
Introducing MS Edge enterprise roadmap
Starting now, Microsoft Edge features will begin showing up on the Microsoft 365 Public Roadmap. This will allow you to track our progress on your favorite features and get a better understanding of what we are working on at any given time. We are also excited to announce a release schedule for our Beta and Stable channels!
To learn how to find the upcoming features, and see what the release schedule looks like, click Read more.
Enhance your reading with Picture Dictionary
Do you sometimes want a picture of a word to better visualize what you're reading? This week you should be able to do just that! Picture Dictionary provides a pictorial representation of words. You can turn this setting on in the Reading Preferences while using Immersive Reader.
Once Picture Dictionary is switched on, hovering the cursor over a word that has an associated picture turns the cursor into a "star." Clicking on the word will bring up a picture associated with it.
Let us know what you think of this feature by submitting feedback through the browser (... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback), by heading to our Insider forums, or by mentioning @MSEdgeDev on Twitter. We would love to know your thoughts!
New Storage Access API benefits developers and users
Looking for more insights and control over your website's storage behaviors? Try our new Storage Access API, which is now live in the Microsoft Edge Dev channel. This API allows developers to determine whether their access to browser-based storage is restricted by a user’s privacy settings and if so, to request storage access from users. This capability can be used to create graceful fallback experiences in cases when storage access may be reduced by features such as tracking prevention in Microsoft Edge.
For users, this API provides greater transparency into and control over the sites that are requesting access to browser-based storage that could be used to track their behaviors across the web.
Click the button below to check out our blog post about this functionality and learn more about what the Storage Access API means for both developers and users.
Try the new PDF highlighter
We are pleased to announce a new highlighter tool for PDF files. To try it, use Microsoft Edge to open a PDF from your computer or the web. Then, simply click or tap the new "Highlight" option in the top toolbar and drag your mouse over text to color it. For more customization, use the dropdown menu to change highlighter colors.
Additionally, we've enhanced support for the erasing feature. Just click on the "Erase" button within a PDF, then drag your mouse across any highlight. Then when you are finished reviewing the document, you can use the toolbar to save the edited copy.
We are continuously developing the highlighter tool, so keep an eye out for more upcoming improvements, including keyboard highlighting and dragging support for Pen. To see the broader PDF feature roadmap, click "Learn More" below.
Sidebar search is now available
We're thrilled to announce that one of our most-requested features is here. This week we’re introducing sidebar search, a convenient feature that allows you to find information without leaving your current web page.
We've used your feedback to take what you already loved from the "Ask Cortana" experience and improve upon it. Now, sidebar search results include visual media, company* content, and more relevant results. To use this helpful tool, simply highlight a word or phrase, right-click to open the context menu, and select "Search in sidebar."
Let us know what you think by leaving a comment on the linked article below or submitting feedback through the browser (Shift+Alt+I).

Improving Memory Usage
When apps, like the browser, use memory more efficiently, it helps prevent slowdown of the whole system. With the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, Microsoft Edge has leveraged heap memory improvements now available for Win32 applications. This helps the browser manage memory more efficiently, and early internal testing results of devices on the May 2020 Update are showing a memory usage reduction of up to 27% when browsing with Microsoft Edge. We encourage you to read more about these improvements available to you by clicking "Learn More" below.
Adblock causing Youtube errors
We've recently heard that some of you are encountering an error message when loading videos on YouTube. Thanks to your bug reports, our Media team determined that using the Adblock (Plus) or Adblock for YouTube extensions seems to be causing the unexpected behavior.
This issue affects all channels and operating systems equally, but the good news is that there’s a simple workaround. The team recommends disabling Adblock, then refreshing YouTube.
Are you seeing any similar errors on YouTube or other media sites when using Microsoft Edge? Let us know by submitting a bug report through the browser (Shift+Alt+I) or commenting in the linked discussion.
Introducing the new and improved extensions store
Our Extensions team has heard your voices and is excited to reveal our newly redesigned extensions store. We've improved the store's layout, added new collections, and improved accessibility. So give it a try and let us know what you think!

If you've encountered this issue, please let us know by clicking the button below and commenting on the linked forum post. If you want to dive deeper into the troubleshooting with us, we've also provided steps there for submitting diagnostic data.
Block potentially unwanted app downloads
When you download apps it's not always obvious what you're getting. Some apps might display unexpected advertising, use your PC for cryptomining, or do other things you'd prefer they not do. These are potentially unwanted apps (PUA) and Microsoft Edge can help spot them, block their download, and help you decide whether you really want that app or not.
To enable this feature, navigate to edge://settings/privacy and ensure that "Microsoft Defender SmartScreen" is toggled "on." Then, turn on the feature "Block potentially unwanted apps".
Click the button below to learn more about how to prevent PUA on your device.
Introducing an improved spell check experience
We’re excited to announce that we're introducing a new spell check experience in Microsoft Edge, starting in version 83. It’s available for users on Windows 8.1 and above, and is powered by the Windows Spell Checking API.
This improvement will provide several benefits, including for support for additional languages and dialects, a shared custom dictionary, and better support for URLs, acronyms, and email addresses. Click the button below to learn more about this feature on the Microsoft Edge blog.
Read aloud now available for PDFs
We're excited to announce that one of our most popular accessibility features, Read aloud, is now available for PDFs!
You can open Read aloud by holding down Ctrl+Shift+U, or by right-clicking on either a highlighted section of text or near the text that you'd like read aloud, and selecting "Read aloud" or "Read aloud section," respectively, from the context menu.
To learn about this helpful feature, go to "Learn More" to check out an article from our Product team. And in honor of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we highlighted some of Microsoft Edge's accessibility features, including Read aloud, on our Windows blog. Click the "More Features" button to read it!
Translate text in Immersive Reader
Do you love the streamlined and accessible experience of Microsoft Edge's Immersive Reader, but also want to translate content? Starting now, this impressive tool can translate text into 54 languages!
Immersive Reader’s translation feature is simple and easy to try. To do so, open Immersive Reader, then select "Reading preferences" in the top corner of the menu bar. Next, choose your desired language and toggle "Translate entire page" on.
The feature is automatically enabled for all users, so give it a whirl and let us know what you think.
Syncing your Favorites
We've heard that some users recently noticed that some of their favorites appeared to be lost after running the "remove duplicate favorites" tool. This is expected to be more prominent for users who have performed additional edits or set up new clients after running the tool. The good news is that your favorites are not lost and we already have a fix in place! However, please note that you will need to sign out and sign back in after updating Microsoft Edge in order to recover those favorites.
If you are still missing favorites after signing back in, please drop us in-app feedback (Shift+Alt+I) from within Microsoft Edge with a full description of your scenario and we will investigate it further.
Check out the latest announcements from Microsoft Edge

Be sure to check out our latest announcements and upcoming features and be one of the first to see what’s next. Click the first button to learn more about some of the exciting updates we have, which are specifically tailored for developers and technical enthusiasts! And select "Register now" to sign up for Build sessions.
Improve focus with quieter notifications
When surfing the web, sites often ask if you want to accept notifications, especially content-rich pages like news sites. However, constant notifications can be distracting during your browsing experience. To combat this, Microsoft Edge is now providing an option for quieter notifications.
This request will now appear as an icon in the right-hand side of the address bar, quieted to give you a better browsing experience. You can still accept notifications from your favorite sites, but they requests won’t distract your browsing experience. This feature is now turned on by default in settings edge://settings/content/notifications.
Image improvements for Collections cards
After listening to customer feedback, we realized that we could more effectively represent the webpages that you save to Collections. Previously, we used developer-supplied data and tags to create the main image for each web page's collection card. However, this method caused confusion if there was a large image on the page which did not match what the developer provided in their tag. And when there was no tag or large image found on the page, we would create a card with no image.
Now, if the page you're adding to a collection doesn't have a representative image, Microsoft Edge will take a screenshot of the current view and use it for the Collections card. In addition, we also now run an algorithm on top of the webpage. This algorithm takes several components into account and helps us grab images of the page while avoiding noise, such as ads. So, if the website has a large and representative image, that will be put in a card instead of a screenshot.
We'd love to hear what you think! If you have any suggestions, please submit those thoughts through the browser using the Send Feedback button.
Use credit card nicknaming for easier online payments
Your feedback makes a difference! After hearing that you wanted a simple way to distinguish and differentiate your credit cards when making online purchases, we're introducing* our card nicknaming feature. Nicknaming your debit or credit cards allows you to choose the correct card when using autofill to select a payment method, helping you save time.
You can create nicknames by either following the autofill prompts when using a new card, or by navigating to edge://settings/payments and editing or adding a card.
Click the button below to find out more and provide feedback on card nicknaming!

Enabling Collections sync
We've heard that you're loving the new Collections feature but are experiencing issues with your items not appearing on other devices or in other Edge channels. After an investigation, we found that some customers who upgrade to the latest versions do not have Collections sync toggled to “On” in Settings.
To help resolve this, we've turned Collections sync on for users that have all other sync features "On" in Settings. We respect your privacy and data collection preferences, so Collections sync will remain "Off" if you have disabled sync for any features. So, if you are still experiencing issues with your Collections syncing, please navigate to edge://settings/profiles/sync and ensure that Collections sync has been enabled.
Click the button below for more details, and let us know in the comments if this fix works for you.
Update Kaspersky to resolve loading issues
We received reports that some Kaspersky Internet Suite users, who have the associated extension installed, sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load on Microsoft Edge. After working with the Kaspersky team to identify the roadblock, we're happy to share its easy fix.
The issue stems from using an outdated version of the main Kaspersky software, and can be quickly resolved by installing the latest update then reloading the browser. Any versions above (j) should see the fix.
Thanks for letting us know what you were encountering and for giving us the opportunity to investigate it! If you see any additional issues with site performance, please submit details and diagnostics through Microsoft Edge's feedback tool.
Multiple profiles and Automatic Profile Switching
We first talked about Automatic Profile Switching a few months ago, and now we are excited to share more exciting news: this feature is now available for professional and personal accounts in Microsoft Edge version 84 and above.
Automatic Profile Switching is especially helpful for those of you with multiple Microsoft accounts who want some extra support in keeping your work and personal activities separated.
If you'd like to learn more about this helpful feature and how to set it up, click the button below!
Introducing checkboxes for History and Favorites pages
We found through user feedback that selecting multiple items on the History or Favorites pages wasn't very intuitive. This week we're happy to highlight a change we made to improve the overall functionality of these pages.
Starting in build 84, you can now select items on these pages with checkboxes. We feel that this will give you a clear idea of what was selected and make it easier to select multiple items. Let us know if you have any changes to suggest by submitting feedback via the browser's message icon in the top right, or by holding Alt+Shift+I. We'd love to know what you think!
Share your thoughts in our quarterly survey
It's that time again! We just posted our quarterly survey for our Microsoft Edge Insider forums. We invite you to take it and give us your honest opinions on our Insider's program and social media presence. Your ideas will be used to bring you an even better experience.
So, if you are a member of our community, follow us on Twitter, browse our Insider website, or just want to share your views, please stop by and let us know your thoughts by clicking "Take Survey" button below.
Introducing Selection-based Reading View
We’ve heard that our users love Immersive Reader and would like it to be more widely supported across sites. So, while we incrementally bring more sites in, we have introduced a new way to bring up Immersive Reader on all websites: Selection-based Reading View!
While on a webpage, highlight the content that you want to read in Immersive Reader, right-click to bring up the context menu, and select Open in Immersive Reader. The content will appear in Immersive Reader in a clutter-free manner. Additionally, you can use all of our reading and learning tools on this content, like Read Aloud and Line Focus.
We'd love to hear what you think! If you have suggestions for improvements, please submit those thoughts through the browser using the Send feedback button. Want to share your experience with the feature? Please drop us a note at @MSEdgeDev on Twitter.

Scrolling personality improvements in Microsoft Edge
Scrolling is one of the most common user interactions in a browser and it’s central to how we experience the web. Whether you’re using a touchpad, touch screen, mouse wheel, keyboard, or scroll bars, you want your scrolling experience to be fast and responsive.
Last week, we posted a blog that talks about how we’ve improved scrolling personality in Microsoft Edge and a summary of themes we've observed in your feedback. Click Learn More to read about these and some of the next steps on our journey.

SmartScreen gets even smarter
We'd like to highlight a new behavior in SmartScreen which underscores our commitment to keeping us all safe on the web. We received reports from some of you that when visiting a page blocked by SmartScreen, you could sometimes still hear audio playing. We want to make surfing the web easy and confusion-free, so we've redesigned the SmartScreen experience.
Now, in addition to blocking an unsafe site, SmartScreen will also navigate away from and unload the page. This will completely block any audio and replace the site's contents with our prominent, red SmartScreen safety message.
So, we invite you to give SmartScreen a workout and let us know what you think. Thanks!
Get back to work quickly with recently closed tabs
Have you ever closed a tab or window by accident, or simply realized too late that you weren't done with a page? To help with this we've added the ability to quickly reopen tabs which were closed in the current or previous browsing session. You can access these tabs in several ways, most directly by opening the Settings and more (...) menu and choosing the History submenu. Here you will find the recently closed tabs listed in the order they were closed, most recent first. Opening one of these won't just navigate to the page you were on, but will restore the browsing history of the tab itself, so you can go back to pages you previously viewed in that tab.
The same list can be viewed by choosing Manage history from the submenu, or pressing CTRL + H any time, to see the History page. Just click Recently closed from the left nav. Here you can choose additional options to open tabs in a new window or copy a link to the clipboard.
The quickest way to access recently closed tabs is to use the shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+T or choose the Reopen closed tab option in the tab context menu. This will open the most recently closed tab, and using it repeatedly will walk back in time to open other closed tabs. (This feature has existed for awhile, but we figured this was a good time to highlight it.)
Let us know how this is working for you by choosing Send feedback or stopping by the insider forum. Keep that feedback coming!
Save multiple tabs to Collections
We have heard from feedback that you are using Collections to organize your web projects, and that there should be an easier way to save and open all tabs you're working with. That is why we're excited to announce that you can now quickly save all your tabs and reopen them using Collections. To save your tabs to a collection, simply right-click on a tab and select Add all tabs to a new collection. Tabs in your active window will be added to a new collection with the option to rename it. To reopen those tabs, right-click on the collection and select either to open the items in the current window, a new window, or an InPrivate window.
We would love for you to try this feature out and hope you send us feedback! You can send us feedback via the chat icon in the top right of the browser, or by reaching out to us on Twitter at @MSEdgeDev.
New family safety features
To help parents simplify managing their child’s online safety, we’re introducing a new family safety entry point inside Edge settings! If you’re interested in learning about what family safety features are available inside Edge or if you would like access to your family’s dashboard, go to edge://settings/familySafety and let us know what you think!
To get started, you will need to create a family group and add your child’s Microsoft account to enable family features. Currently, these family features are only available on Windows machines which means your child must be signed into the Windows device with their Microsoft account. Enterprise users can disable this new page inside settings through policy. This is just one of the improvements we’re making to ensure children can explore the web safely and to simplify the management process for parents, so stay tuned!
Drag multiple items into Collections
If you use the Collections feature, you know that you can drag an item on a product page over into a collection with ease. We're excited to tell you about dragging multiple items into a collection!
While on a website that has a list of products, you can now highlight multiple items, click and drag them over to your Collections list, and drop them into a collection of your choosing.
Give it a shot yourself and tell us what you think! You can send us feedback about the feature through the feedback tool at the top right of the browser, or by reaching out to us on Twitter at @MSEdgeDev.
Extensions sync is now live
You can now sync your extensions across all of your devices!* Extensions from both the Microsoft and Chrome Stores will sync with Microsoft Edge. If you navigate to the ellipses menu, select Settings and then navigate to your Sync options, you should see the option for Extensions sync now available to use. Give it a shot and let us know any feedback you may have about it!
*Not yet available for mobile.
The Insider website now supports dark mode
If you're one of the many Insiders who use Microsoft Edge in dark mode, we're pleased to show you this page in its new dark theme for the first time. This will make the update experience a little less jarring and more consistent with the rest of Microsoft Edge. If you'd like to check out the page in dark mode, it's easy; just open the Settings and more (...) menu, choose Settings, and then choose Appearance from the left side. From the Default theme dropdown, choose Dark, then return to this tab. The page should change to our new dark theme, though it's possible that you'll have to refresh the page for everything to go dark.
Let us know what you think, and if you spot anything wrong you can tell us about it using the Send feedback button. Thanks!
Collections sync is available
In case you missed it, Collections syncing is now live in both Dev and Canary channels! Thanks so much to all of you Insiders who have continuously provided us feedback about this feature.
As long as you are signed into the same account across the channels, your Collections should sync seamlessly. Have feedback about how Collections work or suggestions on how to improve? Click the feedback icon in the top right of your browser to let us know! Want to share why Collections are important to you and how you use this feature? Drop us a tweet at @MSEdgeDev to show the love.
Introducing an easier way to access your work content
We’ve now enabled an experience that we call Automatic Profile Switching to help you get to your work content more easily across profiles. If you use multiple profiles at work, you can check it out by navigating to a site requiring authentication from your work or school account while on your personal profile. When we detect this, you will receive a prompt to switch to your work profile to access that site without having to authenticate to it. When you choose the work profile you want to switch to, the website will simply open in your work profile.
We hope that this will help you keep your work and personal data separate and help you get to your work content more effortlessly. If you don't want the feature to prompt you to switch profiles, you can choose the don’t ask me again option and it will get out of your way. Let us know what you think and thanks for being an Insider!

Introducing PDF ink customizations
One of our top feedback items has been to improve our support for inking on PDFs, and we're happy to announce we now have ink customization options! Prior to Dev channel 82.0.432.0, the options for inking were limited to blue color and a single default stroke width. Now users can select the drop-down next to Draw to open the color palette and adjust the thickness of the stroke. To customize, select the ink color of choice from the palette and move the slider left or right to adjust the width of the strokes.
Have feedback about the functionality or improvements you'd like to see? Send that to us via the feedback icon at the top right of the browser.

Feature Highlight: Reading view - Line Focus
Ever wanted to be able to just focus on a section of text to avoid distractions? Line focus is a feature that will help you with that, available under the flag for Reading Preferences.
This feature intentionally keeps the focus on a limited set of content and dims out the rest of the page so you can stay focused on the content you'd like to read. To personalize to your own reading style, Line Focus provides the option to select the number of lines you would like to keep in focus. Give it a shot by enabling the Reading Preferences in Reading View feature flag in edge://flags.
We would love to get your feedback on this feature! Please submit your thoughts through the Send Feedback button in the browser, or reach out to us on Twitter at @MSEdgeDev.
Introducing a way to remove your duplicate favorites
Over time, multiple copies of your favorites can appear from import, sync, or day-to-day browsing. Microsoft Edge can now identify duplicates and remove them on your behalf.
To access the tool, click on the star on the browser’s toolbar and select "Remove duplicate favorites". Microsoft Edge will identify and remove favorites, merge folders with the same name, and you will be able to confirm changes. Any updates to your favorites will be synced across your devices.
Give it a try and let us know what you think! You can send us your feedback by clicking the Send Feedback icon in the browser, or by reaching out to us on Twitter at @MSEdgeDev.

Feature Highlight: Ad Blocking
Microsoft Edge offers Ad Blocking on sites that are known to show intrusive or misleading ads. This provides a cleaner browsing experience. If you visit a site that is known to show intrusive or misleading ads, Microsoft Edge will block all the ads on that site. This feature is turned on by default for all Microsoft Edge users. You can check out this feature under Site Permissions in the browser Settings.

Hide the First Run Experience in the new Microsoft Edge
One of the most frequent Enterprise asks around the new Microsoft Edge has been for a way to hide the new First Run Experience. We have taken this as a high priority feedback, so starting with Microsoft Edge 80 (Stable), you can now use the new browser policy HideFirstRunExperience to do just that! Click Learn More to find out how.
This new policy is a frictionless way for the users of your managed devices to go directly to the browser startup page without having to fiddle with any configurations or welcome messages at first run, and be immediately productive.
DevTools is available in 10 new languages
We’re excited to announce localization for Edge DevTools, a feature that allows you to fit your developer experience to one of 10 languages besides English: Chinese (simplified and traditional), French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. To learn more and find out how to enable this feature, click below to read our blog post.
Developer tools should fit users' language and location preferences for a more seamless and productive debugging experience. It isn't fair to expect developers to learn English in order to have a positive experience, and we hope that this effort will encourage others to invest in localizing, too.
Next, we’re working on localizing our documentation. How else can we improve localization? Hit the feedback button in the browser or tweet us @EdgeDevTools to help us find bugs in translations, identify what languages need to be added, and if there are other localized experiences you'd like.
Cards from your Microsoft account are now available in Microsoft Edge
If you have payment cards saved in your Microsoft account, you can use them in Microsoft Edge while filling out payment forms. The cards in your Microsoft account will sync across desktop devices and the full details will be shared with the website upon two-factor authentication (CVC code and your Microsoft identity). For further convenience, you can choose to securely save a copy of the card on the device during authentication.
Your card(s) would have likely been added to your Microsoft account if you had made any past purchases in Microsoft Store, Xbox, etc. You can also visit your account page directly to add your card and have it available across Microsoft properties including Edge.

Debug z-index stacking with 3D View in DevTools
We are thrilled to announce the next iteration of 3D View in the Microsoft Edge DevTools, with a new feature to help debug z-index stacking context. The general 3D View shows a representation of the DOM (Document Object Model) depth using color and stacking, and the z-Index view helps you isolate the different stacking contexts of your page.
Coming soon, we’ll have a better highlighting experience between the Elements panel and 3D View, UI improvements, and new camera controls. We’d love to hear what else you’d like to see from this experience! What other features would help you with your day to day debugging? Feel free to reach out to us on Twitter, or just click "Send feedback" in the Microsoft Edge "Help and Feedback" menu at any time.

Two new features for the new tab page
We're happy to highlight two new features on the Microsoft News version of the new tab page (NTP). You can now rename any of your quick links, and customize the language and location for news content.
To rename a quick link, just open a new tab and hover over one of the tiles. You will see a More options (...) button appear. Choose this button, and then choose Rename. Enter the custom name you prefer and choose Save.
To change the location for news content, open the Page content menu by clicking the gear icon in the upper right of the NTP. At the bottom of this menu, you will see a Language & content dropdown with a selection of locations and languages for news. Choose the one that suits you, and the NTP will refresh with new content.
Collections should now sync properly
Last week many of you reported an issue with Collections sync. Collections which had been updated on another device (or in another channel) would not update in the Collections pane until Microsoft Edge was restarted. As of today's Dev channel update the issue is now fixed. This a great example of how your feedback drives action on the team. It's sincerely appreciated, and we encourage you to keep it coming. If you spot issues with sync, just let us know by clicking the Send feedback button. Thanks for helping us improve Microsoft Edge!
Microsoft Edge for ARM available in the Beta Channel
We're happy to announce we have released the new Microsoft Edge for ARM to all Insider channels. Microsoft Edge is now running natively for the ARM64 architecture, which is used in some Windows 10 devices like the new Surface Pro X. The ARM version of Microsoft Edge will automatically replace the previous configuration, in which the 32-bit version was running in an emulator.
We are still working on one issue: Video playback on some premium media sites may not always work as expected. We expect to address this issue in an upcoming release.
Please let us know if you experience any other issues, either moving to the ARM version or after you're upgraded. You can choose Send feedback or stop by the Microsoft Edge Insider Forum. Thanks for helping us build the new Microsoft Edge!
Search Privately with Bing
Today, we are introducing InPrivate search with Microsoft Bing as a continuation of our privacy efforts inside Microsoft Edge. While browsing InPrivate, searches made using Bing are not associated with your account or device and will never appear in or influence your Bing search suggestions.
We’ve added a few visual indicators on Bing.com to help remind you that you are searching privately: a grey banner along the search box area, "InPrivate" hint text within the search box, and removing the ability to sign-in to Bing.com. In addition, we’ve disabled single sign-on when on Bing.com to ensure your search history is never associated with your Microsoft account(s).
To give this a try, set Bing as your default search engine in Microsoft Edge Settings under Privacy and Services / Address bar, and then open a new InPrivate window through the Settings and more (…) menu. InPrivate search with Microsoft Bing is only available within InPrivate windows in the desktop version of Microsoft Edge and will be available on mobile soon.
Favorites synchronization has been re-enabled
We apologize that it has taken us longer than expected to re-enable the synchronization of your favorites. We have fixed several issues, and are aware of additional issues that will be addressed soon. In some cases, as the devices start to sync again, there might be instances of unexpected behavior (for instance deleted favorites reappear). Any further updates should successfully spread to other clients (for instance if you delete a favorite after all your clients are recovered, that delete should stick). If you run into an issue with favorites synchronization please file a feedback, with diagnostics.
Thank you for bearing with us as we identified the causes of our synchronization issues. We truly appreciate your patience with us while we work diligently to get this feature re-enabled.
Announcing the draft Security Baseline for Microsoft Edge version 79
Get started building extensions for the new Microsoft Edge
We're excited to announce that the Microsoft Edge Addons store is now accepting new extensions. For all insiders, this means that an increased number of extensions is around the corner. For those of you who own an existing extension, this means it's time to submit your extension for inclusion in the store. Because the new Microsoft Edge is based on Chromium, most existing Chromium extensions will work as-is.
Click below to head to the Microsoft Edge Blog and read our summary post. Here you will find information about how to submit and develop extensions for the new Microsoft Edge. Support is available if you are having difficulty submitting your existing extensions. If you want to develop a new extension, or if you want to learn about Microsoft Edge-specific APIs that you might want to leverage in your existing extension, we have documentation available.
Announcing full support for Windows high contrast themes
Hello insiders, we’re happy to announce that high contrast support is now enabled by default for all users in all channels. Both the web browser and web content now fully support the high contrast themes available in Windows. This feature brings significantly improved legibility and readability of textual content.
To give this a try, select a high contrast theme in Windows settings. For Windows 10 and Windows 8, high contrast settings are in the Settings app under Ease of access. For Windows 7, right click on the desktop and choose Personalize and then choose one of the high contrast themes from the list of themes presented.
You can use high contrast occasionally or all the time – we’ll increase contrast on every site, so that you can continue to focus on content, not style. Our implementation of high contrast in the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge matches the support we offer in legacy Microsoft Edge, and guarantees text readability against any background by adding a text backplate filled with the system background color.
For developers we’ve added a number of new features:
- Support for new CSS media feature forced-colors
- The ability to override any modifications with forced-colors-adjust property
- Support for new CSS System Colors keywords
- Aliased -ms-high-contrast to forced-colors, and -ms-high-contrast-adjust to forced-colors-adjust
- Match prefers-color-scheme: light or dark values based on Windows theme primary colors.
Please give this a spin and let us know what you think! You can reach us by choosing Send feedback. Thanks!
Pin sites to the taskbar for quick access
The taskbar pinning wizard helps you pin your favorite sites to the taskbar. The pinning wizard suggests up to 6 sites to pin based on your browsing history. If there’s not enough browsing history to offer personalized suggestions, you’ll get suggestions for popular sites instead.
In the future, we plan to introduce the taskbar pinning wizard to users at specific times while they’re using Microsoft Edge. In the meantime, you can try it out by launching it manually. Open the Settings and more (…) menu, choose More tools and then Launch taskbar pinning wizard.
If you have feedback about the suggestions you received, we’d like to hear it. Click the Send feedback button to share your thoughts. We value your opinion!
Microsoft Edge for ARM arrives in the Dev channel
A few weeks ago we released Microsoft Edge for ARM to the Canary channel, and now we're happy to announce we have moved it up to the Dev channel as well. Dev is now running natively for the ARM64 architecture, which is used in some Windows 10 devices like the new Surface Pro X.
Even more colors in Immersive Reader
With this new version of Microsoft Edge Beta, we have expanded the number of colorful themes available in the Immersive Reader. You can now select from 22 different background colors. These themes help you personalize your reading experience to reduce eye strain and increase comprehension.
To see the new options, just navigate to any article on the web and then choose the Enter immersive reader option from the right end of the address box. Once you're in the reader, choose Text preferences from the toolbar and then under Page themes choose More themes to see all the options. Select the one you want to try and the background color will fade into place right away.
Try out WebView2 with the new interactive API sample
Developers, back at Microsoft Build 2019 we introduced a preview of the WebView2 control, powered by the new Microsoft Edge. Since then we've been talking with the community, collecting feedback, and delivering updates. Recently we built a sample app using WebView2 and illustrating what it can do, including navigation, messaging, and object injection. If you're interested in seeing it in action or even using it as a starting point for your own application, head over to the Microsoft Edge Blog to learn more.
Start syncing your Collections
Hello insiders, we're happy to announce that the Collections feature is now enabled by default for all users in the Dev and Canary channels. You no longer need to enable the feature flag to use Collections... just click the Collections button in the toolbar to get started.
Collections allows you to gather, organize, export, and share content on the web. If you've been using it, you may have noticed some improvements along the way. Collections now sync between devices, you can rename card titles, and more. To read the latest about collections, click below to visit our blog post... and of course let us know what you think and how it's working for you by choosing the Send feedback button.
Check out grammar tools and text spacing options in Immersive Reader
The Immersive Reader has some cool new experiences we'd love for our insider community to check out. These experiences help students learn as they read and at the same time ensure that the content is inclusive for everyone. To see these in action, first find an article from your favorite website and then choose the Enter immersive reader option from the right side of the address box.
For students who are trying to learn syllables, there is an easy way to see words split into syllables right within the article. It can be done by toggling the Syl-la-bles option within Grammar Tools, on the toolbar.
Similarly, students looking to learn parts of speech, can choose Nouns, Verbs, or Adjectives toggles, to see those parts of speech highlighted in the article, with the selected color for each. For students with color-blindness, there is an option to Show labels that puts a part of speech indicator above each individual word.
For students who might need help with visual crowding, there is an option to manage the text spacing as well. It is present as a toggle under the Text preferences option in the toolbar. With one click, the article is shown with more space between the characters in each word, more space between words and lines which helps with better reading.
All these experiences seamlessly integrate with the rich content in Immersive Reader to help students read better and learn without any change in context.
Let us know how these features are working for you, and what else you'd like to see in Immersive Reader, by choosing the Send feedback button from the toolbar. Thanks for helping with the new Microsoft Edge.

Improving tracking prevention in Microsoft Edge
Improvements to the tracking prevention feature have been added to all channels. These improvements are largely focused on Balanced mode, where we have increased the amount of trackers we're blocking by default while ensuring that sites you care about continue to work as expected. To do this we're relaxing tracking prevention for sites and organizations that you have a relationship with. This is measured by combining data on which organizations own certain sites with a client-side "engagement score" which rates your level of engagement with a site based on recent usage.
These and a few other improvements are described in detail in our blog post, which you can reach by clicking below. Please let us know how tracking prevention is working for you and what you'd like to see from it in the future by choosing the Send feedback button the toolbar. Thanks for all your help as we work to keep you in control on the web!
Try the new PDF text highlighter
We've completed rolling out another improvement for the PDF viewer to Dev and Canary channels. You can now highlight text within any PDF from the web or from your computer, and save or print with the highlights. To give this a try, open a PDF which contains text and select some with the mouse. Then, right click and you will see a Highlight sub-menu at the top of the context menu. Choose that option, and then pick a color, and the selected text will be highlighted. If you'd like to change the color or remove the highlight, just right click on the highlighted text, choose the Highlight sub-menu again, and pick a new color or the None option.
We have more improvements planned, including a highlighter pen. Let us know what annotation options you'd like to see in the PDF viewer by dropping us a quick note via the Send feedback icon, or visiting the Microsoft Edge Insider Forum. Thanks for testing this out for us and for helping to build the new Microsoft Edge!
Your feedback counts: New "update available" icon
Insiders, we're always listening to your feedback and making changes and course-corrections. You may have noticed a small example of this recently when we made a change to how we let you know visually that an update is available. Previously we would replace the "..." icon for the Settings and more menu entirely with a round green icon. If you clicked on this icon, the Settings and more menu would open, with a special option to take the update at the top. However, many users pointed out that the change in icon from "..." to the green icon was not intuitive, and left them thinking that the Settings and more button was missing entirely. To address this we've left the "..." in place at all times, and simply add a little green arrow icon overlay to indicate an update is available. We think this will reduce confusion while still being a noticeable indicator that a new build is ready.
Thanks for all your help on the new Microsoft Edge, and keep that feedback coming!
Learn more about inking on PDF files
In case you missed it a few weeks back, the PDF viewer in the new Microsoft Edge now supports inking. If you haven't given it a try yet, just open any PDF and choose Draw from the toolbar. You can write on the file, erase strokes, and of course save and print your notes.
The PDF team has written an introduction to this feature and started a conversation on the Microsoft Edge Insider Forum. Just click below to head on over there now to learn more and participate in the conversation.
Get more info about Google Chrome import
A few weeks ago we introduced some new functionality that made it easier to bring your Google Chrome experience into the new Microsoft Edge. We now support importing favorites, browsing history, saved passwords, form-fill data, tabs, and certain settings. We'd love to know whether you've tried this and how it worked for you. We've posted some more detailed information and started a discussion on the Microsoft Edge Insider Forum. Just click below to read the article and then let us know what you think.
Microsoft Edge for ARM comes to the Canary channel
We're pleased to announce that Microsoft Edge for ARM is now available in the Canary channel. This means that Canary is now built natively for the ARM64 architecture that powers some Windows 10 devices, including the new Surface Pro X. Native ARM support will come to the Dev and Beta channels in the coming weeks, replacing the current configuration in which the 32-bit version runs on ARM-powered devices using an emulator.
If you have an ARM device, please give this a try on the Canary channel. You will need to make sure you're running 80.0.331.2 or higher. You can check your version, and check for updates, by opening the Settings and more (...) menu, choosing Help and feedback, and then selecting About Microsoft Edge. If you don't have the Canary channel yet, click below to install it. Remember, you can run all of the insider channels on the same device at the same time.
There is one issue we are aware of at this time: Video playback on some premium media sites may not always work as expected. We expect to address this issue in an upcoming release.

Save the date: Microsoft Edge general availability is expected January 15, 2020
On November 4 we updated the Beta channel with Microsoft Edge version 79, which contains many of the fixes and improvements that have been introduced in the Dev and Canary channels these past weeks. We also announced that version 79 is the final Beta before general availability of the new Microsoft Edge. Over the coming weeks we will carefully monitor feedback and make a final set of Beta channel fixes in preparation to launch the stable channel, which is expected on January 15, 2020. On this day we will invite everyone to download and install the new Microsoft Edge on all supported versions of Windows and macOS. We hope you're as eager as we are to share what we are building together with your friends, family, and colleagues. Thanks so much for helping us get to this next big step, and keep that feedback coming!
Microsoft Edge has a new look!
One of the top questions you’ve asked us is when we’re going to update our icon. We’re excited to share that our new look was unveiled yesterday at Ignite 2019, and the first builds of Microsoft Edge with the new icon are now rolling out! We hope you like it as much as we do.
Hundreds of Insiders participated in a series of puzzles over the weekend to unlock the icon—and a surfing game hidden inside the browser—early. The hunt was spearheaded by a devoted group of Insiders on Resetera and a community-created Discord channel, who were the first to reach the end on Saturday. Want to see how the game unfolded? Check out what happened on @MSEdgeDev using the hashtag #FindWhatsNext. And if you just want to skip to the end and play the game, click below for the final clue.
Try these developer experiences for Microsoft Edge
Web developers, we've been listening and engaging with you for feedback, and making improvements to help you work better in the new Microsoft Edge. We've put together a summary of some of these features, including the Elements extension, VS Code debugger integration, the webhint site scanner, and our 3D DOM viewer. Click below to learn about each of these and how to get started and give feedback directly to our DevTools team.
Learn more about autofill and password security
Remembering your passwords and automatically filling them in is one of the most convenient and time-saving features of any modern browser. However, it's important to know that your passwords are stored securely so they can't be misused or stolen. The Autofill team has written a new article about autofill password security in the new Microsoft Edge, including how it's different from the current version of Microsoft Edge, tips for keeping your account secure, and a peek into future investments we're planning and considering. Click below to read this article on the Microsoft Edge Insider Forum, and then stick around to discuss the topic with the community.
The new Microsoft Edge is the browser for business
At Microsoft Ignite 2019 in Orlando, we highlighted our approach to Microsoft Edge for businesses, with new features like IE mode, the enterprise new tab page that is integrated with Microsoft Search in Bing and Office 365, and tracking protection enabled by default. We also announced new capabilities for IT professionals, including the expansion of the FastTrack program to include Microsoft Edge, and the expansion of the App Assure program to cover compatibility of your websites. Click below to learn more about Microsoft Edge and Bing and Ignite at 2019.

Come discuss the top feedback we're hearing from you
Since we launched the Microsoft Edge Dev and Canary channels back in April, we've received over 230,000 pieces of feedback. Reports of specific bugs, feedback on features, and ideas for new functionality all drive action within the team, and we are so thankful for our great community of insiders for helping us build the new Microsoft Edge. For a while now we've been publishing a weekly summary of the top feedback we're hearing from you, so that we can acknowledge, provide updates, and host discussions on the issues most important to you. We published the latest summary today, and we invite you to head over to the Microsoft Edge Insider Forum to check it out and let us know what you think. We are especially interested to hear from you on a few of the topics for which we've recently started focused discussion threads such as the home button, favorites sorting, themes, and download save options. You can find links to each of these in the summary.
We generally post on Tuesdays, in sync with the regular Dev channel update, but you can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback. Thanks and see you there!
Tracking prevention has a new look
In the latest Beta update, we're debuting a new look for tracking prevention. You can check it out by opening the Settings and more (...) menu, choosing Settings, and then picking Privacy and services from the left pane. Here you can see and choose each of the three levels of protection, each explained in more detail. The recommended option is Balanced which blocks trackers from sites you haven't visited and known harmful trackers. You can choose to adjust down to Basic protection which offers the harmful tracker protection, or up to Strict which blocks most trackers but may make some sites not work properly.
You should also check out Blocked trackers, which is a list of each site blocked and the numbers of times it has been blocked. If you want to see how many trackers are blocked on a site you visit, click the View site information padlock on the left end of the address bar. You will see which trackers have been blocked, and have a chance to add the current site to the exceptions list.
Let us know how tracking prevention is working for you by choosing the Send feedback smiley button. Thanks for being an insider!New inking support and more in the PDF viewer
We're pleased to share some new features that have arrived in the PDF viewer.
Up first is the arrival of inking mode, which allows you to draw directly on a PDF file using your mouse, touch, or pen. To give it a try, just open any PDF from your computer or from the web. You will see two options Draw and Erase in the toolbar. Choose Draw to annotate the document with a blue pen. If you want to make a correction, choose Erase and move the pointer across any stroke to erase it. Once you're done, you can use Save or Print options with your annotated document. And stay tuned... we will be adding more pen colors, sizes, and types in future updates.
Also new in the PDF viewer is support for Microsoft Information Protection (MIP). Documents which have been protected by your organization with MIP encryption can now be viewed in Microsoft Edge if the logged in user has been granted access.
Let us know how these features are working for you, and let us know what else you'd like to see in the PDF viewer. Just use the Send feedback smiley. We're listening!
New features for the new tab page
We're pleased to announce some new features for the new tab page (or as we call it here on the Microsoft Edge team, the "NTP"). Open a new tab and check it out:
- The NTP now supports dark theme. When Microsoft Edge is in dark theme (you can change this in Settings under Appearance) the NTP will show dark colors for the search box, top sites, and your Microsoft News feeds.
- Personalizing your news feed is easier than ever. Just click Personalize (it’s the first item after My Feed in the feed header) to browse the categorized list of interests and add and remove them from your feed.
- You can further customize your NTP with various options for adjusting the visibility of content. Just click on the gear icon in the upper right of the NTP to see your options. In addition to the preset Focused, Inspirational, and Informational layouts, you can find new options under the Custom settings that allow you to fine tune the visibility of top sites, the image of the day, and news.
- If you're logged in using your work or school account, you can choose the Office 365 option and see a new NTP layout that connects you quickly and easily to the most relevant documents and websites in your Microsoft 365 environment. Stay tuned for more information about this powerful new option. We're excited to hear your feedback.
Immersive Reader has new read-aloud and text customization features
If you haven't tried Immersive Reader (formerly known as "reading view") in a while, this is a good time to take a look. There is an improved extraction algorithm, a new read-aloud capability, and options to change text size and colors. To give it all a try, just browse to an article on your favorite site and click the Enter immersive reader button that appears on the right end of the address bar.
Once you're in, you'll see the new toolbar at the top of the page. It will quickly retract out of view (to further minimize distractions) but you can get it back by left-clicking on the page or moving the mouse to the top. You can also get the toolbar to stay by clicking the Pin toolbar pushpin on the right end of the toolbar. To customize text options, click Text preference. Here you can move the slider to increase or decrease text size, and choose from four color themes, including a dark theme of course. You can also try the Read aloud feature to have your articles read to you.
The new algorithm will correctly detect and extract more articles more often, but we are always looking to improve. If you spot a website that doesn't offer Immersive Reader when it should, or doesn't extract an article correctly, please let us know by using the Send feedback smiley. Be sure to include the URL of the page you were looking at. Thanks in advance for your help!
Caret browsing: Browse and select text without a mouse
Hello insiders, we're happy to announce that caret browsing is now enabled by default for all users in the Dev and Canary channels. With caret browsing, you can navigate a web page with a keyboard and a cursor, much like you would while editing a document. You can select and copy text as well, and of course activate buttons and links as well.
To enable caret browsing, just press F7. A message will appear asking if you want to turn on caret browsing. You can suppress this prompt in the future by checking Don't ask me again when I press F7. Choose Turn on and you'll be in caret browsing mode. Try this on a text-rich website (you can press CTRL+L to jump keyboard focus to the address bar and enter in a new site). You should see a cursor, and you can use the arrow keys to move around. Hold down SHIFT while you use the arrow keys to select text, and press CTRL+C to copy it to the clipboard.
To exit caret browsing mode, press F7 again and if you see a prompt, choose Turn off
Have you been using tracking prevention? Check out the list of blocked trackers
If you've been using tracking prevention check out the list of blocked trackers in your settings. This view shows a list of sites that have been blocked from tracking you. The sites are sorted by which ones are blocked the most. To see the list, open the Settings and more (...) menu and then choose Settings. Click on Privacy and services in the left pane, and then below Tracking prevention choose Blocked trackers. The list will show each site blocked and the number of times it has been blocked.
If you ever want to start fresh, maybe to see how many trackers are blocked from just a single session, just click Clear data and then choose Clear to confirm.
Another way to view blocked trackers is on an individual web page. Just browse to a website and click on the View site information padlock on the left end of the address bar. The last item in the menu will show the count of blocked trackers, and clicking on it will show a list of those blocked for that site.
How has tracking prevention been working for you? We're interested to hear your feedback. Just choose the Send feedback smiley and let us know what you think.
Annotate your PDF files with new inking mode
Hello insiders, we're pleased to announce that the new inking mode for PDF files has now rolled out to everyone in the Dev and Canary channels. Inking mode allows you to draw directly on a PDF file using your mouse, touch, or pen.
To give it a try, just open any PDF from your computer or from the web. You will see two options Draw and Erase in the toolbar. Choose Draw to annotate the document with a blue pen. If you want to make a correction, choose Erase and move the pointer across any stroke to erase it. Once you're done, you can use the Save or Print options with your annotated document.
This is the just the first step for PDF inking. In the future we plan to add options to select different pen colors, sizes, and types, including a highlighter option. So give it a try, let us know what you think and what we should do next. Just choose the Send feedback smiley, or stop by the forum.
Changes to user-agent string overrides in Dev and Canary
To ensure our customers have a seamless browsing experience, we maintain a list in Microsoft Edge of websites that have known bugs related to improperly detecting our new Chromium-powered version of Microsoft Edge. Usually these bugs are solved by changing the user agent (UA) string sent by the browser, asking the server to return a version of the page built for Google Chrome or the current version of Microsoft Edge. You can see a list of these UA string overrides by typing "edge://compat" in the address bar and choosing User agent overrides.
Historically, these UA overrides have been applied on our Canary, Dev, and Beta channels. However, in the next week we will be making a change which only applies these overrides in the Beta channel. While this may mean that you'll see some new issues on websites in Canary and Dev (especially related to media playback) it will make it easier for you to help us identify issues now, before they're seen by the general public. It will also aid web developers in testing their sites and fixing any bugs.
As always, please report any website problem using the Send feedback smiley, and be sure to include the URL, a screenshot, and as much supporting information as you can. Even if you know the issue is a bug with a website and not with Microsoft Edge, your reports help us make the web better for everyone by informing website owners of their bugs, and helping the Microsoft Edge team understand common problems.
Import settings and tabs from Google Chrome
If you're a Google Chrome user, it just got a little easier to bring your existing browser experience with you into Microsoft Edge. We now support importing settings, open tabs, and pinned tabs from Chrome into Microsoft Edge. This is in addition to other import data types that we already supported: favorites, browsing history, saved passwords, and other form fill data.
To import from Chrome, start by opening the Settings and more (...) menu and then choosing Settings. In Profiles choose Import browser data under your currently active profile. Once the dialog box appears, choose Google Chrome under Import from and then check or un-check the boxes for each data type according to what you want to import. The two new options are at the bottom of the list: Settings and Open tabs. Choose Import to start the import process.
If you chose to import tabs, all of your open tabs from Chrome will be added to Microsoft Edge, and those that were pinned in Chrome will be pinned in Microsoft Edge. If you chose to import settings, the imported settings will be immediately applied.
For more information on import from Google Chrome, including the specific list of settings imported, see our help article by clicking below. Please give this a try and let us know how it's working. You can report bugs via the Send feedback smiley.
Import your Microsoft Edge reading list, including saved Web Notes
If you are a user of the current released version of Microsoft Edge on Windows 10, you can now bring one more piece of your data into the Dev and Canary channels. Now when you import favorites from Microsoft Edge, your reading list will be imported as well and placed into a special folder. Any Web Notes you saved to your reading list will migrate too.
To give this a try, choose your profile icon in the toolbar and then Manage profile settings. Choose Import browser data. Select Microsoft Edge from the Import from menu, and then make sure Favorites or bookmarks is checked. Press Import and when the confirmation message appears, choose Done.
Now choose the Favorites button from the toolbar and then click Manage favorites. In the navigation view on the left, you will see a new folder under Other favorites called Reading list saves which contains all your reading list items, recreated as favorites.
Let us know if everything is working for you. As always, thanks for being an insider.
See this week's top feedback summary
Hello insiders, we're back again with another top feedback summary post over in the Microsoft Edge Insider Forum. This week we're highlighting top feedback that has been addressed, including the option to hide the smiley button from the toolbar, and new PDF inking features. We'd love to discuss these features and any of our top feedback with you in the forum. Click below to head over there, read the latest, and get involved.
See tabs that are open on another device with open-tabs sync
Hey insiders, we just finished rolling out sync for open tabs and we'd love for you to give it a try. With open-tabs sync, all open tabs from one device are visible in the History menu on another device logged in using the same Microsoft account or work or school account. This way you can pick up right where left off as you transition between devices. Insiders may also find tab sync useful because sync works between channels on the same device, so you can easily access a tab you have open in one channel when you're using another.
To access synced tabs, open the Settings and more (...) menu and choose History. At the bottom of the history menu, tabs from other devices will show up below the name of each device. Note that only the most recent tabs will show in the menu. You can click any tab in the menu to open it on the current device.
Open-tab sync will only work if you are signed in to each device using the same account, and have open-tab sync enabled on each device. To ensure you have open-tab sync enabled, click your profile icon in the toolbar and choose Manage profile settings. If sync is off, choose Turn on sync and follow any prompts that appear. Once sync is on, make sure Open tabs is enabled as well.
Please let us know how this is working for you by choosing Send feedback or stopping by the Microsoft Edge Insider Forum.
Introducing improved form controls in Microsoft Edge and Chromium
In the past several months we've been working with the Google Chrome team to modernize form controls like text boxes, checkboxes, dropdowns, and the date picker. We're happy to announce that refreshed controls are now available in the Canary and Dev channels, and will be coming to other Chromium browsers soon. These controls have a modern appearance and improved touch-friendliness and accessibility. One important accessibility improvement is that controls now support Windows high contrast settings. Whether you're using built-in high contrast themes or have customized colors to suit your needs and preferences, controls will now honor these settings.
We'd love to hear what you think about the new controls, and especially if you spot any problems with them. Just use the Send feedback smiley button, and be sure to include a screenshot if your feedback concerns the appearance of controls.
To learn more about this effort and the changes, click below to read our blog post.
Now available: Enterprise new tab experience
A new Microsoft Edge experience is now available in the Dev and Canary channels to make your workday go smoothly. When signed in with an Azure Active Directory work account, opening a new tab in Microsoft Edge will feature a new layout that connects you quickly and easily to the most relevant documents and websites in your Microsoft 365 environment. To give this a try, click on the gears icon in the upper right corner of the new tab page, and choose Office 365 from the menu. You can learn more about this experience at our upcoming Ignite event. We’re excited to get your feedback.
Try family safety features, now available for the insider channels
We're pleased to announce that the family safety features built in to Windows 10 and the current version of Microsoft Edge are now available in the insider channels as well. These features are available at https://family.microsoft.com, and include web filtering, SafeSearch, and activity reporting. Once you've set up your family, a child who logs in to Windows 10 using their account will be protected from content using the rules you've chosen, and their browsing activity can be made available for your review. Child accounts are also prevented from using InPrivate mode when activity reporting or web filtering is enabled.
You can verify that child safety features are in effect by opening the Settings and more (...) menu and seeing an item at the bottom of the menu which reads Managed by your family group.
Note that if your child is logged in to Windows using their account, all profiles created in Microsoft Edge will have family safety restrictions applied. If you want to disable family safety features, you'll need to log in to Windows with an adult account.
Please let us know how this works for you and any "junior insiders" in your family. If you encounter a problem, report it using the Send feedback smiley button.
Try the webhint v1 browser extension
Hey web developers, the webhint browser extension has moved from beta to v1 and is now available for the insider channels, as well as Chrome and Firefox. The webhint extension helps you scan a website right from DevTools and get quick feedback on accessibility, compatibility, and more.
After announcing the beta back in July, we received lots of great feedback and implemented a number of fixes and improvements. Improvements include suggestions for missing vendor prefixes, grouping of similar hints, and more granular accessibility categories.
For more information, including where to get webhint and its documentation, click below to read our v1 announcement blog post.
New features for the new tab page
We’re pleased to announce some new features for the new tab page (or as we call it here on the Microsoft Edge team, the “NTP”). Open a new tab to check it out:
- You can further customize your NTP with various options for adjusting the visibility of content. Just click on the gear icon in the upper right of the NTP to see your options. In addition to the preset Focused, Inspirational, and Informational layouts, you can find these options under the Custom settings.

Insider channels are available in 96 languages
To insiders from around the world, did you know that the insider channels can now be displayed in 96 different languages? If you've been an insider for a long time, you may not have noticed when your language came online.
To see if your language is available, open the Settings and more (...) menu, choose Settings and then choose Languages. Click the Add languages button and find your preferred language in the list. Check the checkbox, and then choose Add. The language you chose should appear in the list of languages. Click the More actions (...) button next to the newly added langague, and then check the box which reads Display Microsoft Edge in this language. A Restart button will appear next to the language. Click it to close and reopen the browser, which will now show in your preferred language.
If you speak a language other than English, we want to hear from you about the quality of our translations or about any feature which doesn't work right when Microsoft Edge is displayed in another language. Even if English is your primary language, if you speak or read something else, give it a try for a few days and let us know what you think.
Tracking prevention: Now enabled by default for Beta users
Tracking prevention is a feature that protects you from being tracked by websites that you aren’t accessing directly, giving you more control over your online data. By default, the feature is enabled and set to the Balanced level. You can configure this by opening the Settings and more (...) menu, choosing Settings, and then choosing Privacy and services.
To learn more about tracking prevention, click below to read our blog post.
See your favorites at the click of a button
Hello insiders, thanks to your feedback we've added a new Favorites button on the toolbar. This button gives you quick, one-click access to your favorites right from the toolbar. Just click the button and you'll see all your favorites in a cascading menu.
Of course if you're not a favorites user, or the favorites bar is your preference for quick access, you can remove the button from your toolbar. Just right click on it and choose Hide from toolbar. You can always bring it back by opening Settings and choosing Appearance.
As always, let us know if you have issues or ideas for us by choosing the Send feedback smiley, also nearby in the toolbar.
Sync passwords, addresses, and more across all your devices
We’re excited to announce the arrival of password and form-fill data sync in the Beta channel. If you are logged in to Microsoft Edge Beta with sync enabled, your passwords and other form data like addresses, phone numbers, and email will automatically sync with your other Windows or macOS devices also running Microsoft Edge insider channels. This will soon extend to other platforms like iOS and Android. Data will also sync between Beta, Dev, and Canary on the same device, making it easier to move between channels.
If you are already signed in with a Microsoft account and have sync enabled the new password and form-fill data sync has been automatically enabled for you. If you want to manage your sync settings, click on Settings and more and choose Settings. Under your profile choose Sync to turn sync on and off and to manage what data is kept in sync.
Please let us know how this is working for you and what you think by choosing the Send feedback smiley button.
Tell us what you think about the insider program
We are always looking for feedback to make Microsoft Edge better. Taking input on the way we listen is no exception! Last week we highlighted the changes we have made to our in-app feedback experience. Now, we are looking to you for feedback on how we can improve our social media and community presence. Prevent videos from playing automatically
To address a top request we've heard in feedback, we have introduced a setting which allows you prevent media from playing automatically when you arrive on a site.
To check this out, just open the Settings and more (...) menu, choose Settings and then Site permissions. Scroll down and click on Media autoplay. You can choose from two options: Allow and Limit. Allow is the default and will place no autoplay restrictions on sites and the Limit option will determine whether to block autoplay based on how you've used media on a given site in the past.
Give this a try and let us know how it works for you. We'd be especially interested to know if this isn't working on a particular website.
More options for better feedback
We love getting feedback from our insiders, and you haven’t disappointed. To date we’ve received almost 200,000 pieces of feedback. Thanks, and keep it coming! If you have a simple suggestion to make or want to let us know how you’re feeling about the next version of Microsoft Edge, just sending us your thoughts is great. But if you have a bug to report, there are some cool options you might not know about:
- You can edit the default screenshot by cropping and annotating it.
- You can view and choose which diagnostic logs are sent with your feedback.
- If the problem you saw is reproducible, you can record a special log while you recreate it.
- You can attach any file you think might be helpful, including extra screenshots or sample data.
To read more about these options and how to use them, check out our post on the Microsoft Edge Insider forum.
Share web pages with new Windows 10 sharing integration
For insiders on Windows 10, it's now easier to share web pages with other people and other apps. In the Settings and more (...) menu there is now a Share option which opens the Windows 10 sharing interface and allows rich sharing integration with your contacts, devices, and other apps.
There are a lot of possible share targets out there, so we'd love your assistance to make sure your favorite sharing scenarios are working as expected. Give them a try and when you find an issue please use the Send feedback button to let us know what happened. Thanks in advance for your help!
A quick update on Collections
Thanks to everyone who has tried our experimental preview of Collections in the Canary channel this past week. We’re happy to announce that with today’s update, Collections is now available in the Dev channel. To enable it, type “edge://flags#edge-collections” into the address bar to open the experimental settings page. Click the dropdown and choose Enabled, then select Restart to close and reopen Microsoft Edge. You will see a new icon for Collections in your toolbar. Click it to open the Collections pane and get started.
We’ve received a lot of great feedback about Collections so far. One of the top things we've heard from you is that you expect Collections to sync to your other devices where you are logged in to the same account. This is absolutely planned and is currently in development. We'll have more information on this in the coming weeks.
Thanks for being an insider, and keep the great feedback coming!
Sign-in and sync with work or school accounts
This week we're pleased to announce that browsing data will now sync through Azure Active Directory (AAD) accounts associated with your work or school. If you sign-in using a work or school account your favorites, settings, passwords, form-fill data and more will now sync with Microsoft Edge Insider channels running on other Windows and macOS devices, provided you are logged in with the same account on each device.
To sign in, click the profile icon in the toolbar. If your current account isn't signed in, just choose Sign in and follow the prompts to use an existing or new work or school account. If you're already signed in to a Microsoft account on your current profile, click Add a profile to set up a new one first.
To enable sync or to control what kind of data is kept in sync, click on your profile icon in the toolbar and choose Manage profile settings. Click on Sync and then use the toggles to control when sync is enabled or disabled for your account, and to control which kinds of data are kept in sync.
This sync capability is available in the Beta, Dev, and Canary channels, so you can use it to keep multiple insider channels in sync on the same machine. Also, you can now choose to sync with the insider channels on Microsoft Edge for iOS and Android when logged in with your AAD account. You can find Microsoft Edge for mobile devices in the Google Play store or Apple App Store.
If you choose not to sync, you can still sign in with your AAD account for personalized experiences such as single sign on. Click below to learn more about AAD sync on the Microsoft Edge blog.
Sync form-fill and password data with Microsoft Edge on iOS and Android
Hello insiders, if you use Microsoft Edge for iOS or Android you should check out the new capability to sync passwords and form-fill data with the Microsoft Edge Insider channels. This is available for both Microsoft accounts as well as work or school accounts.
To get started, open Microsoft Edge on your iOS or Android device, and be sure you are signed in either with your Microsoft account or a work/school account. Go to Settings. Under Accounts choose your currently active account, then choose Sync. Under Data items enable both Autofill and Passwords. Your form-fill data and passwords will now sync between the Microsoft Edge Insider channels and Microsoft Edge on your mobile device, provided you are logged in to the same account on each.
If you haven’t tried Microsoft Edge on your iOS or Android device, you can install it from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. To enable sync, you'll need to log in with a Microsoft account or a work/school account and then change your sync settings to sync with Microsoft Edge Insider channels instead of Microsoft Edge.

Collections is ready for a first look
We're happy to announce that the Collections feature is now enabled by default for all users in the Dev and Canary channels. You no longer need to enable the feature flag to use Collections, simply launch either channel and click the Collections button in the toolbar to get started.
Collections allows you to gather, organize, export, and share content on the web. If you've been using it, you may have noticed some improvements along the way, such as collections sync between devices, the ability to rename card titles, and more. To read the latest about collections, click below to visit our blog post, and of course let us know what you think and how it's working for you by clicking the Send feedback button in the browser.
Sync passwords, addresses, phone numbers, and more with your Microsoft account
We’re excited to announce the arrival of password and form-fill data sync. If you are logged in to Microsoft Edge Dev or Canary with sync enabled, your passwords and other form data like addresses, phone numbers, and email will automatically sync with your other Windows or macOS devices also running Dev or Canary. This will soon extend to other platforms like iOS and Android. Data will also sync between Dev and Canary on the same device, making it easier to move between insider channels.
Thanks for being an insider!
Read aloud getting better with the cloud
The Read Aloud feature is getting even better! With help from the cloud, new voice options have been added for select languages, removing the need to download and install additional language packs. We’ve also added XiaoXiao, Katja, and Elsa, three new "Neural" voices, which are meant to sound more natural than ever.
You can turn on Read Aloud from the right-click context menu or from the Settings and more menu. Once it’s enabled, choose the Voice options button and you will see all of our new voices ready to try. The new voices are powered by Microsoft Cognitive Services and exposed via the JavaScript Speech Synthesis API. This means that any web-based text to speech application can leverage them to create more human sounding experiences in Microsoft Edge.
To learn more about the new cloud powered voices, check out our blog post by clicking below. When you give them a try, we'd love to know what you think. Click the Send feedback button to drop us a note.
Netflix playback works again
There was a known issue in this week’s Dev build that caused Netflix playback to fail with the D1711-1331 error code. This has been fixed in all Insider channels as of today's Dev channel update.
Clear browsing data when you close Microsoft Edge
In today's update we are introducing a new feature which allows you to clear browsing data when you close Microsoft Edge. You can select which elements of browsing data you want cleared any time you close the last browser window of a specific profile.
To access this option, choose Settings and more (...) and then Settings. From the left pane, choose Privacy and services and then click on Choose what to clear every time you close the browser. You'll see a screen in which you can choose which types of data are cleared when you close the browser.
Use Elements for Microsoft Edge to debug in VS Code
Last month we released the new Elements for Microsoft Edge extension for VS Code and we'd love for web developers to give it a try and let us know what you think. Using Elements you can inspect and debug the DOM directly from VS Code and see the impact of changes to the page in real time. This is an initial preview that we'll use to help us better understand the issues you have manipulating and debugging HTML/CSS across browser tools and your editor.
Click below to read our blog post about getting started and providing feedback.
Check out the webhint browser extension
We're excited to announce the beta of the webhint extension for Microsoft Edge DevTools. With webhint integrated directly into DevTools, web developers can run site scans and see results right in Microsoft Edge. We also offer versions for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. To find out more, get started, and learn how you can provide feedback and log issues, click below to read our announcement blog post.
Microsoft Edge is ready for business
With today's Dev channel update, Microsoft Edge is ready for business. You can download offline installers for Windows 7,8, 8.1, and 10 as well as macOS, download policy file templates and try out IE-mode.
We have more coming soon, but in the meantime, you can test out deploying the next Microsoft Edge browser across your enterprise. You can get more information on deployment and management of our browser at https://docs.microsoft.com/DeployEdge.
As always, we are really interested in your thoughts on our progress. Please let us know how you feel about these features and more by using the smiley at the top of the browser window, next to the Profile button, or by going to our forums. We have just opened a new sub-forum dedicated to Enterprise issues and comments.
Controlled Feature Rollouts
Are you interested in learning more about how Microsoft ensures that our new features don’t affect either the stability or the performance of the browser? Our engineers have put together a small article talking about how and why we do controlled feature roll outs.
We would love for you to read through it and tell us how you feel we are doing so far.
Use Microsoft Edge in 11 new languages
Today we are introducing the ability to see the Microsoft Edge user interface in 11 new languages. If you speak one of these languages, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. If you find something that was not translated very well, wasn't translated at all, or isn't displaying correctly in the UI, please use the Send feedback smiley to let us know right away.
The newly added languages are: Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), French, German, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
To change your display language:
- Open the Settings and more menu and choose Settings
- In the left pane, choose Languages
- Choose the Add languages button
- Search or scroll to your language of choice and select it. Choose the Add button. The selected language will now appear at the bottom of your languages list.
- Click the More actions button next to the newly added language, and check Display Microsoft Edge in this language.
- A Restart button will appear next to the language. Click to restart the browser and see the user interface in the selected language.
Dark mode for settings pages
We have heard you and starting with today’s Developer channel update, your Settings pages will all respect your preferred theme. We have a little more work to do with the dark mode changes, but we would love to know what you think of our work so far.
As always, use Send Feedback or visit the insider forum to tell us how it’s working for you and share your ideas for what we should do next.
Try the “Show icon only” option in the favorites bar
One of the top requests we've heard from your feedback was an option to display favorites in the favorites bar with only an icon and not the name of the favorite. This functionality is available in the current public version of Microsoft Edge but was not available in the insider channels. We've been listening, and we recently added this option in Microsoft Edge Dev and Canary.
To give it a try, just right click on a favorite in your favorites bar and choose Show icon only. The name of the favorite will disappear and only the icon will remain. To show the name again, just right click and unselect the Show icon only option.
This feature allows you to display more favorites on your favorites bar if you have some sites with recognizable and unique icons, while others require a displayed name to be recognizable. If you spot an issue with this functionality, or just have feedback, please choose Send feedback in the toolbar and let us know your thoughts.

Reading view is now available for everyone
We're excited to announce that the reading view feature has completed rolling out to everyone in the Microsoft Edge Insider channels. Reading view lets you read web content without distraction by showing articles on the web in a clean and immersive reading experience free from content that isn't part what you want to focus on.
If Microsoft Edge detects that you are viewing web content suitable for reading view, a book shaped icon will appear on the right side of the address bar. If you click on this icon the page will be transformed into a cleaner layout optimized for efficient reading.
Please give reading view a try and let us know what you think. We'd especially like to know if reading view is working as you expect on your favorite websites. If the reading view icon is not showing when you expect it to, or articles are showing incomplete or improperly formatted, please let us know by choosing the Send feedback option in the toolbar. Be sure to include the full URL of the page that isn't working for you.
For more information about reading view and coming-soon grammar tools check out the article we posted on the Microsoft Edge Insider Forum. Also, know that page customization options that allow you to change the look and feel of Reading View are coming a little ways down the road.
New forum article about autofill
Sync your data with Microsoft Edge on iOS and Android
If you’re running the latest version of Microsoft Edge on your phone or tablet, you can sync your favorites, form-fill data, and passwords with Microsoft Edge across Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
To get started, open Microsoft Edge on your iOS or Android device, and be sure you are signed in either with your active Microsoft account or work/school account. Go to Settings. Under Accounts choose your currently active account, then choose Sync. Your data will now sync between your iOS or Android devices and all devices running Microsoft Edge, provided you are logged in to the same account on each.
If you haven’t tried Microsoft Edge on your iOS or Android device, you can install it from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and follow the above steps to turn on sync.
For more information about the future of sync in Microsoft Edge, check out the article we posted on the Insider forum.
Try the new built-in translator
We're excited to have you check out the built-in translator feature, now available for all users in the Dev channel. We support translating to and from over 50 languages, bringing more of the web to you.
To test this out, just navigate to a page in a different language, and in most cases a prompt will appear offering to translate the page. If we don't offer the option automatically, you can click the translation symbol in the address bar to see translation options for the page. You can also access it via the context menu for a page.
For more information about the new translator, check out our forum article on the topic by clicking below.
Dark mode is here
With today's Dev channel update, you can use a large part of Microsoft Edge in dark mode if you have your Windows 10 or macOS theme set to dark. Your tabs, address bar, toolbar, menus, and other elements will now use dark colors. We’ll expand dark mode in the coming weeks, to include other parts of the browser, such as settings, favorites, history, and other pages. Also, we’ve heard your feedback, and we’ll be adding a setting to Microsoft Edge that allows you to use dark mode independent of your operating system setting.
For now, to turn on dark mode on Windows 10, open Start and choose Settings. Select Personalization and then Colors. Under Choose your default app mode, pick Dark. If you’re using Windows Insider builds or have the Windows 10 May 2019 Update, under Choose your color, pick Dark.
To turn on dark mode on macOS, select the Apple menu in the upper left corner of your screen, and choose System Preferences. Choose General (usually the first in the list) and under Appearance, choose Dark.
As always, let us know how this feature is working for you by choosing Send feedback from the toolbar.

Check out the new voices in Read Aloud
The Read Aloud feature, which you can start from the right click context menu or from the Settings and more menu, now supports more natural sounding voices out of the box.
When you turn on Read Aloud and click the Voice options button, you’ll notice new "24kRUS" voice options. These voices sound more natural than ever. We’d love for you to give them a try and also let us know what you think about the Read Aloud experience in general. Please let us know if you run into issues or if you have any feedback by clicking the Send feedback button.
The new voices are powered by Microsoft Cognitive Services and exposed via the JavaScript Speech Synthesis API. This means that any web-based text to speech application can leverage them to create more human sounding experiences in Microsoft Edge.
Insider channels are now available for 32-bit Windows 10
If you have a 32-bit Windows 10 device, you can now install both Microsoft Edge Insider Channels. Just browse to www.microsoftedgeinsider.com on your device and follow the prompts. You don't need to do anything to tell us you want the 32-bit version. The installer will automatically detect the system architecture and install the right version of Microsoft Edge for your device.
Let us know if you spot any issues in the 32-bit version by choosing Send feedback from the toolbar.
Help improve autofill for forms
The autofill team wants your help to improve the experience of using forms in Microsoft Edge. As you browse the web please let us know what you think about autofill and share any sites where autofill features don't work as expected. This might include:
- Passwords not being saved for a site or saving of incorrect credentials
- Issues with filling saved payment or contact information
If you encounter these or have suggestions for improving the experience, please use the Send feedback button in the toolbar. Be sure to include the website which had an issue in your feedback.
Also, if payment and contact info was not already imported for you, you can specify it yourself by clicking on Settings and more in the toolbar, and then choosing Settings from the menu. Under Your profile choose Payment info or Addresses and more, and add your payment or contact information.
Thanks for your help, and thanks for being a Microsoft Edge Insider!
Help us give our PDF reader a workout
The PDF team wants your help to make sure the PDF reader in Microsoft Edge is working great for you. To participate, just use Microsoft Edge to browse to some of your PDFs on the web, make sure they look right, and try out some of the features available from the PDF reader toolbar. If you spot a problem or just have a suggestion, please submit feedback using the Send feedback button.
If you want to go the extra mile, consider making Microsoft Edge Dev or Canary your default PDF handler in Windows 10. In any File Explorer window, browse to a folder which contains a PDF. Right click on any PDF and choose Open with and then Choose another app. In the popup that appears, select Microsoft Edge Dev or Microsoft Edge Canary and then check the box for Always use this app to open .PDF files and press OK.
Thanks for your help, and thanks for being a Microsoft Edge Insider!
Some limitations for Chrome Web Store extensions
The Microsoft Edge Insider channels support the installation of extensions from the Chrome Web Store. In most cases these extensions will work great in Microsoft Edge. However, there are two known issues we'd like to make you aware of:
- If an extension relies on Google Account functionality to sign in or sync data, it may not work properly in Microsoft Edge.
- If an extension relies on companion software on your PC, it may not work properly, even if the companion software is installed.
We are working on these issues, and we'll let you know when we have an update.
Media casting is now available
The media casting feature, which allows you to play video and other media directly from Microsoft Edge to an external device, is now fixed. If there are casting devices available, you can give it a try. Navigate to a page which has videos or photos. Choose the Cast media to device option from the More tools menu. Select a device, and content from the current page will be shown on the target device. Please let us know if you run into issues or have feedback by clicking the Send feedback button.
Some sign in and sync limitations
There are some limitations to the sign in and sync experience in our insider channels. We are working to expand these features, and will let you know when new functionality is available.
Currently:
- Browsing history and extensions do not yet sync between devices. Browsing history is required for Windows Timeline, so you also won’t see browsing history from other devices on your timeline.
- The Collections feature is now available in some insider channels, but the collections you create will not sync between devices
- You cannot sync between the insider versions of Microsoft Edge and the current in-market version of Microsoft Edge on your PC.
